HEAVEN
For the Kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. (Matthew 20:1 NKJ)
To be honest, I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about heaven, but today as I drove down the road heaven was on my mind. You see recently I have found myself telling people that I won’t care if my mansion in heaven is a cardboard box as long as I am with Jesus. At one point long ago I even told people that even if I did not go to heaven, the joy that He had given me now would be enough for me. Well, I felt like the Lord asked me what I thought heaven was like? As near as I can tell from any descriptions in the bible, it is going to be a place of great beauty and value by earthly terms. There are walls of precious gems and streets paved with gold among other things. That would lead me to believe that we are not going be distracted much by material things.
I think all of our attention in heaven will be focused on the presence of God. When I look at it that way, it becomes obvious that the very most important thing in heaven is available to me right here, right now. I believe the Bible bears witness to the fact that it is in His presence that we find pleasure forever more. Isn’t that what we all seek?
The Bible says we are temples of the Holy Ghost. My citizenship is not here, and yet I am here. Jesus said that the Kingdom of Heaven was here. Since it was here, it only stands to reason that it is still here. Yes, I look forward to going to heaven but isn’t it great to know that we can enjoy the most important part of heaven right here and now? Surely the presence of the Lord is right where you are right now reading this. I know that I can feel Him right here as I write these words.
There were times before I ever knew God that I now know His presence invaded my life. I am certain that every single person has at one time or another experienced those moments those times when for some reason that they could not explain, everything just felt good.
Truly, I do not know what heaven will be like, but I do know He will be there and that is all that really matters to me. The challenge now, is to live that same way here. You know, “Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
Could it be that the key to harvesting all that God has for us lies in lowering the importance of treasures and exalting the importance of His presence? When the earthly treasures that God has for us pale in comparison to a moment with Him, it may just be that He can trust us to receive all that is necessary for us to take and reveal the good news to all men. It is not just the words we know about Christ Jesus that people need. They need to see the life that we have in Christ Jesus.
What ever God has planned for heaven will be great, but truly the greatest part will be being with Him, and we can practice that now!
