HEIRS BY GRACE
Therefore, [inheriting] the promise is the outcome of faith and depends [entirely] on faith, in order that it might be given as an act of grace (unmerited favor), to make it stable and valid and guaranteed to all his descendants--"not only to the devotees and adherents of the Law, but also to those who share the faith of Abraham, who is [thus] father of us all. (Rom. 4:16 TAB)
It does not matter whether we deserved God’s favor or not, we inherited it and the question now becomes; “What are we going to do with it?” Or more specifically, “What are you going to do with it?”
This thing that God offers each and every one of us is personal. We inherit it through faith. In other words, all we have to do is believe it. It does not matter if it sounds too easy. It does not matter if someone prefers not to accept it. It is still true. If we can believe that God will forgive all of our sins by simply believing, why should we have a problem with believing that we inherit everything else from God the same way? Remember that we are happy and to be envied when our sins are wiped away.
It is the inheritance that makes us enviable. The will has been read and every single believer has been named. Not only that, but there is a list of potential heirs that contains the name of every person alive on the earth today and all who are to come. And no matter how many line up for their inheritance, it in no way reduces anyone’s share. We all get all the fullness of God! In other words, God being of sound mind, leaves everything to you and you and you and so on and so on.
I do believe that I have been guilty of squandering my inheritance. In some instances I simply left it laying around. I have not really put it to work the way that God intended. No wonder God warned us not to neglect such a great salvation. The great thing is that it only takes the application of faith to bring it right up to speed.
We all received the same letter (the Bible) telling us about the reading of the will. We have even heard the rumor about our share. Some of us have even experienced some of the benefits, but none of us have experienced them all.
In the natural, if we were to receive a notice that we were named in a will, we would make sure we did not miss out. And once we found out our share, we would take all the necessary steps to collect it right way. In fact, if someone tried to convince us to just forget it, we would brush them aside and go for it because it is ours for the taking. And once we got it, we would be envied and people who knew about it would want a piece of it. Just ask a lottery winner, they will tell you just how true that is.
Well as a believer in Jesus Christ your inheritance is abundantly above and beyond what you could ever hope or imagine. All things are possible for them that believe. Will you be one who will reveal the goodness of God to the lost of the world? Will you use your inheritance to see that everyone hears this great news?
