HELP IS ON THE WAY

I was the first to tell Jerusalem, "Look! Help is on the way!" (Isaiah 41:27 NLT)

Don’t you just love knowing that help is on the way? Years ago I ran out of gas on the interstate. I had two tanks on the vehicle, but it would not switch so there I sat with a full tank and still out of gas. It was early spring, and I had just returned from Russia. I wanted to get home and I was getting cold. My coat was in my luggage and my luggage was lost. I prayed in every way that I could imagine and for the life of me I could not figure out why God was not just fixing that thing. Well, finally someone stopped and they said they would call AAA road service for me. Then they took off.

There I sat with a little blanket wrapped around me watching in the mirror for a truck with flashing lights to come. I watched and watched and as I got colder and kept saying to the Lord where are they, the Lord spoke to me. He told me that the same way I was waiting for the help, was the way that the people I had just left were waiting for my return. You see I was convinced that I would not be going back to Russia. Not because I did not like going, but I thought that was what the Lord was telling me. Well he made it pretty clear that I was mistaken. Since then I have been back many times as help sent from the Lord.

I love it when help is on the way, and I have learned that it is a great privilege to be the help that the Lord sends. From time to time, we all need help. In fact we may think we are always the ones in need, but the truth is, we need to be helpers as well. Jesus said it is more blessed to give than to receive and I think that it would be safe to say that would apply to helping and being helped as well.

We can be sure, that God has help on the way whenever we call. We may not see it right away. It may look as though it is not coming. But God says that help is on the way and He does not lie. The delay may be due to the fact that our timing is different from God’s, and it may also be because someone is not acting on what God is leading them to do. In my case, God did not withhold help. But He did use the delay to help me understand how important it was that I return when He said that I should.

It makes me wonder how often people have been waiting for help and I missed the signal to go. I hope it is not often. It is good that we always look to the Lord for help and that when we do, we are sure He is faithful to do it. It is also important that we realize that God calls on us to help. So many people say they want to be used by God, but then He wants them to help someone or with something that does not appeal to them and they skip the opportunity. No matter where it is or what it is that God wants us to be Him in helping, it is a good thing. Do you need help? Just call God. As you do, keep your ears open. Someone else is calling too, and you may just be the help God sends. He sent help to Israel in many forms and He has helped us all in ways we do not even realize. For sure, Help is on the way.
