HELP THEM SEE

But those who don't grow in these blessings are blind. They cannot see clearly what they have. They have forgotten that they were cleansed from their past sins. (2 Peter 1:9 ERV)

Again we see the challenge to see what we have. Peter reminded the people of the blessings they had and then challenged them to add even greater benefits to them. He reminds us that we are chosen. Remember when you were kid and they were picking teams and you wanted to be on a certain team but were chosen for the other team. I saw kids refuse to play because they wanted a different team.

We have all been chosen for the ultimate winning team, but unfortunately many do not realize that! Some who are on the team have no idea what they really have and consequently fail to add to it. If we do that, we wander around in the world with a form of godliness and no power and consequently misrepresent what God desires from our lives.

As I was praying this morning for God’s Kingdom to come, I suddenly felt an overwhelming sadness and a sense of despair. I thought of all the people who do not know God and all the people who think they do, but are really missing so much of His Kingdom. It reminded me again of a time when I was a child and my dad was the baseball coach for the local amateur team. I was the bat boy and there was a guy who was just a terrible baseball player and I felt bad for him. I knew dad was going pass out uniforms and there was no way he was going to get one. I was so sad my dad asked what was wrong and I just started crying because I knew the guy should not get a uniform, but wondered if he could be bat boy with me!

Folks, there are so many who are missing so much and we have what they really need. We have a responsibility to know what we have and show it and then be prepared to explain it.

There are storms all around but we have peace in the storms. There are fears all around, but we have fearlessness. There is confusion but we have wisdom. There is despair but we have confidence. We have these things because of Christ. Others can manufacture them for a season but ultimately without Christ things crumble.

I pray that God will stir up in every person who calls on Christ a desire to have all that He has blessed us with. I know I need more and I know that everyone who knows Him little knows deep down that they need more of Jesus.

Peter says, “Because you have these blessings, do all you can to add to your life these things.” (2 Peter 2:5) Read the rest of the verse and consider not only what it will do for you, but how it will help others around you to see that God and His word are alive and powerful and world changing. Help us Lord to help all people see!
