HIGHEST PRIORITY
Therefore I, A prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. (Ephesians 4:1 NLT)
What is a life worthy of our calling, and how do we live up to that request? I have a suggestion, a thought that I think will help but I by no means suggest that it is the only answer or the complete answer. It has occurred to me that we have a lifetime of course corrections that lead us to that perfection that culminates in His presence.
These course corrections come from a determination to continually make God our Highest priority. We simply keep turning to Him. When we find ourselves distracted or off course; we turn to Him! We are all learning! Paul himself said that he had not yet arrived. He thought he was living a life worthy of God until met Jesus on the road and did a huge course correction!
God is faithful and he will guide us. We must be careful not to get caught up in condemnation when we need a course correction. It will do us no good to beat ourselves up. We should rejoice that we desire to correct our course. With each correction we improve our walk.
What about those people who never seem to get it right? We are all, “those people!” Not one of us is perfect and the very fact that we are looking at the splinter in someone else’s eye proves it. We are all travelers on this journey. We need to cheer one another on.
Scripture tells those who are strong in the faith to bear with those who are weaker. If we think we are strong but refuse to bear with those who are weaker, maybe we are not as strong as we think! I am not suggesting in any way that we condone sin in ourselves or in anyone else; I am saying that we need to make a determination within ourselves to make Jesus our highest priority and ask Holy Spirit to hold us to our determination.
Keep correcting your course. Look at Peter. He tried to tell Jesus what to do and Jesus addressed him as satan because he was not considering what God had planned. Ouch! Peter made a course correction right there. Still, a short time later when Peter felt so smart about his course correction, Jesus warned him to pray so that he would not get off course and told him what he was going to do. What did Peter do? He got a really strong lesson about staying on course.
I want to encourage you to never give up. Early this morning God said to me, “never give up on Me; I will never give up on you!” Let this sink deep in your heart and mind; God will never give up on you! He never gives up on anyone, even those who seem to have no faith at all, so it stands to reason that if we say to God, “You are my highest priority, help me to live like it” He will most certainly guide us. Press on!
