HIPPITY HOPPITY

Jesus shouted, "Father, I put my life in your hands!" (Luke 23:46 ERV)

When I was a child, we had an old console radio and record player. It was the old style that played the 78’s. That may be too old of technology for some. Anyway, at this time of year we began to hear the old song about Peter Cotton Tail because Easter was on the way. Well Easter is on the way again, at least the day some recognize it for one reason or another. For Christians, Easter is a daily celebration. He is alive in our lives.

I was thinking about how Jesus, on the day he died shouted out to the Father remembering that I too have shouted out to the Father, but it seems some of me just keeps trying to live on! When I say this, I am of course not speaking of physically dying as Jesus did, but rather putting down the flesh so the Spirit can rule. So as I was thinking of this the old song came into my mind. It is an odd thing I realize, but it was immediately followed by a certain burden for people of this day.

How many children are growing up with eggs, rabbits, and marshmallow chicks as their understanding of Easter? I will be honest and say that my most vivid memories are of those things and a new set of clothes. The plus being that the new set of clothes was for church, but it took a long time for that to take effect in any noticeable way.

Still, there was church. There were the songs of the crucified Lord and rising from the grave. It was even recognized in school as something important. Yep, we still had those Ten Commandments hanging on the walls. We had no idea how fortunate we were.

If we know Jesus, we know that we are the messengers. We are the ones to spread the good news of the Kingdom of God. If we will seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit He will show us how to present the Good News like Good News. The Joy of the Lord will come shining through.

Without a lot of effort, Peter Cotton Tail will get back in his rightful place far behind the Risen Savior. Do you remember when Jesus became more important than the candy and the fairy tales? Help someone else to see how wonderful Jesus is.

Psalm 33:3, tells us to sing and new song and sing it loud! I sang along with Peter Cotton Tail for many years and still remember some of the words, but I am thankful that I now know how to sing a new song to the Lord.

I have no problem with folks who do not know the truth. I pray for them that someone will help them see. I just want to encourage all who do know to help others to know. I think we may forget just how blessed we are to know Him. Sing a new song today.
