HIS LIGHT
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light(Eph.5:8 NKJ)
As I closed my eyes for sleep one night, I saw a light. As I looked at the light, it seemed to be like a flashlight at night following along a path, and all I could see was small rocks. As I went it became harder and harder to make out what I was seeing. I was hoping that there was something I was to see at the end of the path. Finally the Lord said to me, “if you walk the path with someone else’s light, your batteries will run down. If you walk in the light as He(Jesus) is in the light, the light remains bright and refreshed. No one can walk in anyone else’s light indefinitely-they must have their own light to the follow the path that the Lord has for them.”
As I have pondered this, I could see that trying to walk in someone else’s light would be like borrowing a disposable flashlight. It would eventually go out. Or it would be like trying to find something, but you don’t have your own light. So you can have someone shine their light in your direction, but you would not have much time to look.
We each have light that we can share, but rather than it being a disposable flashlight, it seems to me that it would be better if we saw each person’s light as a torch. When someone has their torch lit, we can go to them with our torch and receive light, then we have our own light. With our own light, we will not stumble on the rocky paths.
1 John 1:7, tells us that if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another. Light leads us to fellowship, and fellowship strengthens us. We are to fellowship, but the fellowship is not our source of existence. The Lord is! We can not just borrow a flashlight at fellowship times. We need to bring our torches and take home our own light. Then while we are out on the path, we are walking in the light, and we come back to fellowship with torches burning brightly and offering light as well as receiving it.
After all, we have an anointing from the Holy One and therefore need no man to teach us. This does not mean that anointed people can not teach each other, it means that we can seek the light ourselves and Christ the anointed will guide us. We really can not use the excuse of ignorance, when we could ask God for light. Certainly there is always someone who knows a particular path better than another, and they can shed some helpful light to keep us from stumbling. But then, we need to take that light for our own and go on. We also need to be careful that we do not put that light in a closet when we do not want it to shine. Know what I mean?
We all have places where we need the light of God to shine in our lives. He says to walk in the Light. Look for the Light and then walk in it. Don’t wait for someone to come by and then just walk in their light. Look for the light, and if someone comes by, touch your torch to theirs and walk in the Light the Lord gives you. Pretty soon we will all be walking with our torches burning and together. we will light up the land. GLORY!!
