HIS WORD IS HIS WORD
Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do. (John 14:11 NLT)
If we don’t believe that His word is His word, then we miss the foundation of truth. But think about it; do you believe this simple truth? Do we accept what He says for what it is? It is His message to us. It is the beginning of us hearing Him and knowing Him.
So most of us will accept and stand on certain things He says. We may be a little unsteady when it comes to the always true and workable idea, but we believe the fundamental aspects. However, it is of utmost importance that we receive all that He says.
When He tells us not to let our hearts be troubled, that is His word. When He says He is with us always; that is His word. When He says believe Him; that is His word. Whether we are prepared to accept it or not, does not change it.
I know this sounds elementary and hard to swallow at the same time, because we all have our own way of believing what we believe. We all have some things that we are going to defend and some that offend us. If we can just forget those when it is time to hear from God, then we can still learn. If we are set on what we are willing to learn, then we reject anything that might teach us something.
For instance, last week I was reminded of many years ago when the Lord spoke to me from John chapter 15, verse 16. It literally jumped off the page to me. “I chose you.” How simple and wonderful is that? That same message is there for every person who will read it or hear it and believe that it is God speaking. Am I really on your team Lord? Yes you are, I chose you!
Jesus ran through so many truths in His life with us. He made so many profoundly simple statements that were intended to ground us and give us great confidence in walking with Him. He kept them simple and we have spent a long time complicating them by trying to figure out what He really meant? Seriously, His word is the same yesterday, today, and forever, so it is not time sensitive. What He said, He said! If it quit working with the disciples, then it has been outdated for a long time. But we are still experiencing it, so His word is still His word.
He never suggested that we could take parts that we like and leave parts we do not. He simply said that we should believe Him. Why would we not like everything He says? Sure some things are uncomfortable for a time but so what! We break in new shoes and clothes and learn to like certain foods; so why would We hesitate to taste and see that the Lord is good?
This may be old news to some, but we may need to stir up the truth again. He chose you and anointed you and ordained you that you might produce lasting fruit. Believe it!
