HOLY SPIRIT

Then He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” (John 20:22 NLT)

Breathe on me Lord. Never let up! I believe that Holy Spirit is often neglected in our personal walk with God. We pray and do lots of things in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy spirit, but do we receive Him? Do we give the kind of reception that Jesus commanded us to give Him?

Receiving Him was important to the early church. The people were saved, baptized by John, and seeking the Lord. Still the disciples came and asked them if they had received the Holy Spirit since they believed. They said they did not even know of such a thing! Then they received.

Truly, the Holy Spirit draws us and is with us; but have we received Him in all of His fullness?

I was saved. I loved Jesus. I was doing my best to follow Him. There was a pastor that I followed around and I noticed that every time we had a meeting, he would end with praying over me. When he did, he always prayed in different languages. He never said why! Once when He prayed, He asked for me to receive the Holy Spirit. I still did not have a clue, but I began to pray and ask God for anything I might be missing in this new life.

It seemed that from that point on, everything reading of the Bible, every time in worship, I kept hearing, “Receive the Holy Spirit!” It took a bit. Not because He was slow, but because my understanding was clouded. Someone early on had managed to put a wedge in my life when it came to receiving the Holy Spirit. He was of course with me, but there seemed to be something more that I was missing.

I was determined to have all that Jesus commanded. Again, I will tell you that I made the process a lot more complicated than it is, but I have been able to help many others move past their confusion, into His fullness as a result.

Holy Spirit is not just about speaking in unknown tongues, but it is about receiving Him in His fullness. I have found that people can get hung up on which part of Him they find acceptable! Holy Spirit does not come in pieces. He is power! He is peace! He does lead us into all truth!

I am reminded that many people followed Jesus until He said something that was more than they were willing to receive.

Be cautious that you do not resist receiving Holy Spirit because you do not like all that He brings into your life. Do not judge the fullness of Holy Spirit based on what others do or have done. Receive Him because Jesus said you should.

We are in times when we need all the fullness of God in order to fight the good fight of faith. There are so many things that we have no idea how to pray about, so we need Holy Spirit to make intercession when we groan and speak in heavenly languages. Jesus is breathing on us. Ask Holy Spirit to take you higher and make you stronger. Cast aside any resistance you might have.
