HOLY SPIRIT LONGING
What do you think the scriptures mean when they say that the Holy Spirit, whom God has placed within us, jealously longs for us to be faithful? (James 4:5 NLT)
I think it would it be truthful to say that God loves faith? I also think it would be truthful to say He is particular about what faith He loves. Let’s face it; faith has become a word used in a multitude of contexts. The problem is that people are being encouraged to believe that any faith will do. And many Christians are actually falling for the idea that the proper Christian attitude is to agree with this even though God makes it very clear that faith in Jesus Christ is the one true faith. Those bound up in destructive faiths are not tolerant of others. No, they want anyone who is not of their faith to either change or be gone. Jesus on the other hand teaches us that they can believe what they want but it will be to their own destruction. To those who believe in Jesus, He says to just keep lifting Him up before people and He will draw them to Himself. We are not to be intolerant; we are just expected to be determined not to compromise the truth.
So then, the Holy Spirit comes to draw people to God, because God’s first desire is that no one perishes. To know God is to have faith in God through His son Jesus Christ. Now, as we read in this passage from James, “God jealously waits for us to be faithful.” Why? Because while faith saves us, being faithful is what keeps us.
Now don’t misunderstand, I am not pushing works for salvation. But there are a lot of people that are deceived into thinking that as long as they believe that God exists that is all they need. They don’t allow God too change their lifestyle, their speaking or their thinking, they just keep on living anyway that they want. Then they wonder why things get so messy in their lives. Yes, I know, that the devil does his best to mess up even the most faithful believers life, but that believer will stand in the armor of God when the trouble comes.
God wants us to be faithful, so that we do not miss any of the great plans that He has for us. He wants us to be faithful so that others will see the benefits of being faithful. He wants us to be faithful, so that we can stand in the evil day. Lets face it; everyday has evil lurking in the shadows. Everyday, we have opportunities to choose whether or not we are going to be faithful. Will we be faithful to the Word of God and to His heavenly calling? Will we be faithful to join Him in His desire that everyone be saved? Will we be faithful to pray and not doubt, or to praise and give thanks at all times. Will we be faithful to seek and to use Godly wisdom, which is pure, peace loving, gentle at all times and willing to yield to others? [Not compromise our faith but yield for the sake of peace and truth] (James 3:17)
God longs for us to be faithful because it is to our advantage to fill that longing in His heart. I know some things that I need to work on, how about you? God help us to realize that when we are not faithful, we not only rob others, and ourselves but worst of all we hurt you.
