HONORING GOD
“But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors Me. If you keep to my path I will reveal to the salvation of God.” (Psalm 50:23)
“This is my desire. I want to honor you. Lord with all my heart I worship you.” We sing this song. I love to sing this song. When I sing it, I mean it. I should live it always, but I know I don’t. I know I come short of what I need to do and be. I am thankful that God is faithful even when I am not, and when I ask Him, He forgives me. I don’t mind repenting, I just wish I could avoid the need to do it!
God is able to complete the good work He begins. I hold on to that truth and give Him thanks. God is perfect in every way, and He promises to reveal His salvation. Personally, I don’t see this as just His salvation at the end of our lives, but His salvation day in and day out.
We can glimpse Him love in the way a mother loves her child. Yes, it is Mother’s Day, and we are commanded to honor our father and our mother. Moms reveal a special love. Moms are not perfect. God is perfect! God has placed perfect love in all of us. We are, after all, made in His image. We dads do our best, but moms seem to win the love race.
Do we want to honor God? Do we look for excuses when we fail? In Jeremiah chapter two, God poses a question. He asks what was wrong with Him that led them to stray and become worthless. Oftentimes, you can hear a mother wonder where they went wrong that their child went off the rails. Take comfort, God asked that question before you did.
We can remedy everything by simply giving God thanks. In every circumstance, give God thanks! “I messed up Lord! I am thankful for your love and Mercy. It hurts Lord. Thank you for your comfort.” And the list goes on, just be quick to thank God for who He is and what He can do. We know what He prefers. He wants to help.
Don’t run to excuses. Don’t try to hide. Don’t pretend it does not matter. David did all of these things when he started a tumble by lusting from his rooftop.
He could have ended that with a prayer before it went any further than a gaze. He could have told the Lord thank you for her beauty and thank you for forgiving me and keeping me from going beyond lusting. But he did not. Even when he knew he should. But he did not.
We can always honor God. We can always give Him thanks. We can always know His salvation. We can always experience the joy of victory. Give thanks to the Lord for He is good. His love endures forever.
Like a mother, He prefers to love us rather than to discipline us. He does not like to watch us go our own way, but He will allow it. Give thanks that He will always welcome us upon our return.
