HOW MUCH MORE

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask Him. (Mathew 7:11 KJV)

How much more can God give? Have you ever thought about that? In the beginning He created everything, so it seems to me that He can give about anything He wants to. How much more will He give than we would?

I am not sure why it is that we have such a hard time imagining God as a wonderful Father. We can say, “Our Father which are in heaven,” but it seems we stop short when we consider Him as our up close and personal daddy. If we can somehow make that transition all the way over to God being who God wants to be, I believe it will change our lives.

I have quite a bit of experience being a dad. We have five children and love to bless them. I don’t ever enjoy punishing them and would love it if I never even had to correct them. No matter what they may do, I would rather love them than anything. I really do not like to say no, and even when I do it is a hard thing.

Scripture says that if we can be that way, God is way more that way! There is no way that I am as loving as God. There is no way that I am as wise as God. There is no way that I have all to give that God does. There is no way that I could ever be as merciful, forgiving, or as full of passion as God is. So how much more can God give?

Well I think we would all agree that God could give way beyond what we could really even imagine. Remember, we agreed that He spoke the world into existence, so His ability to give really is without limit. I read recently that one person’s translation of Jesus saying that He would give anything we asked was, “if we ask and He does not have it, He will make it for us.” Can you think of anything that He has not already made? Maybe He will give you the next great advance in technology. You won’t know unless you ask!

Now for the big question, since we agree that God could, how much do we believe that He will? How much more will your heavenly Father give you good things? We seem to think He prefers to give us bad things. He waits to see what we do wrong and hand out punishment. We need to get over that kind of thinking. God takes no pleasure in punishing. He desires that we be merciful, how much more can we expect him to prefer to be merciful.

What parent with unlimited resources would not give good things to their children? We always want to give. We want our kids to be blessed. Remember, God wants the world to see His benefits. We are his display models. We are his advertisements. How much more will you allow God to be who He wants to be and to do what He wants to do too you and through you? How much more?
