I AM WILLING
Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing; be cleansed." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. (Matthew 8:3 NKJ)
One of the devil’s greatest ploys is convincing Christians that God is a little unstable. In other words, he tries to get us to believe that God might have good and bad days. He might be willing one day for one person but not willing for the next. If we fall for this ploy, it is easy to convince us that God is really never willing where we are concerned. Of course, the icing on the cake in this is that we comfort ourselves by saying that it really is not necessary for God to do anything for us and we are happy that He at least does it for others. Of course this makes us the greater Christian because we love God whether He does anything for us or not.
That all sounds noble, but the problems it causes are innumerable! For one thing, who else is going to be interested in God if He is like all the others? How long are we going to really hang in there ourselves when we are of the opinion that God probably can do something but He probably won’t do anything for us? Let’s face it, we tend to lean toward whatever or whoever is most likely to produce results. As a result, if we really believe this way, then God will become our last resort. Even though we doubt He would ever really do anything for us, it could be that if we are desperate enough He will finally throw us a bone. I sure would not want my children to look at me that way.
So if we are really going to observe all that Jesus commanded, it is necessary that we believe that He did all of this for a purpose beyond giving us a book to read! It is necessary that we believe that He is willing to do abundantly above and beyond all that we could hope or imagine. Now if we are imagining that He is not going to do anything, do you suppose that we will get what we imagine? If we block the Lord from doing what He can do, it only stands to reason that we open a door for more of what we really expect; which is nothing! That does not sound fun to me!
We certainly should be careful to ask, seek, and knock in the right places. We live in a society, where people are asking for trouble and finding it. People who ask for demons are finding them. People are knocking on doors that when opened destroy them. They are seeking in the wrong places and before they know it, they are trapped. This is why it is so important that we see the Kingdom of God as the source of all life.
Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Observing Him shows us the way. Believing Him locks us into the truth. It is in His ways and His words, that we have the life He promised. This is the life that He wants us to hold up before the world. His life! He knew what He was talking about when He told us that His life would draw all people unto Him. Nothing is impossible for God. He is willing. This the foundation that we must stand on as we observe all that Jesus reveals to us. This is the only foundation worth building on.
