I WANT TO

A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to healed. "If you want to, you can make me well again," he said. Moved with pity, Jesus touched him, "I want to," he said. "Be healed!" Instantly the Leprosy disappeared--the man was healed.(Mark 1:40-42 NLT)

Did Jesus come to earth because He had to? Did He do the things He did while Son of Man, because He had to? Did He go to the cross because He had to? The answer to all of these is no! Jesus was compelled to do the thing He did by His own desire to do the will of the Father who sent Him.

A giant hurdle that we all have to overcome when it comes to receiving from God, is believing that He really wants to do anything for us. Be honest, it is true isn’t it? We obviously know that God can do anything He wants to. The problem is that we are all influenced by the things that we see that we think He should be doing something about. Since He is not putting a stop to war, abortion, drugs and etc. we find ourselves questioning whether He is really wanting to do anything for us at all. Well, don’t be distracted by those other things. Pray about them, and then focus in on the relationship that God is most concerned with. His relationship with you.

This leper was convinced that Jesus could heal him, he just was not sure that Jesus would want to. Well, as soon as he found out Jesus wanted to, and Jesus touched him, he was healed. Settle it in your heart that Jesus wants to meet your needs. He wants to answer your prayers. His answers to you are not affected by what happened in the past, to you or to anyone else. Your relationship with God is a now relationship, based on now circumstances, and it is between you and God and only you and God.

I am sure that the fact this leper was healed greatly encouraged other lepers to seek our Jesus for their healing. Once there were ten who came together to Jesus for healing, and only one bothered to thank Him. In the same way, God will encourage others with the things that they see Him do for you. So say to yourself, “God wants to meet my needs.” If we don’t believe this, how will we convince anyone else.

Now that we have settled that. It is settled, right? We need to take it to the next level. Jesus said, “freely you have received, freely give.” We need to be motivated the same way that Jesus was. We need to do the things we do in the kingdom of God, because we want to. I know that sometimes we all feel like we have to do certain things. We have to pray, we have to read our bibles, we have to witness, we have to do all sorts of things. God does not want us to do anything with that attitude. He would rather that we just did nothing and hung out with Him, until we were so secure in our relationship with Him that we did all that He asks because we want to.

Isn’t that what the disciples did? They traveled with Jesus and became so close to Him, that when the time came they had to go. Not because they were forced from without, but rather because they wanted to do for others what Jesus had done for them.
