IF I AM
Put on your new nature and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like Him.(Col 3:10 NLT)
You are almighty. You are above all things. You are my everything. Mighty God! This chorus came in spontaneous worship many years ago. This week I was considering if I live it or just sing it. The song starts with the words, nothing could be better than worshiping you.
If I am a Christian, it seems that this should be true of my life and the way I live it. We are saved by grace and not by our works, but worshipping God is not work so we do not earn by worshipping God; we get blessed by worshipping Him. Worshipping Him is an overflow of what is inside us. So, to me, my life should be an act of worship. Can I be saved and not act like a Christian? We all have our moments that we need to work on.
I wrote myself a note this week. Everyone needs refuge. We need a place to go. We need hope. We need a helper and comforter. We need building up and direction. We need correction and stabilizing. We need satisfaction and desires fulfilled. We are needy. There is no end to our combined lists. God made us this way and gave us Himself. Jesus is, was, and always will be all we ever need. If I am a Christian, my heart should say amen to that!
There were a lot of people that followed Jesus, and believed He was who He said He was, but when He introduced them to hard choices, they went home. I want to encourage you and myself to stay. If I am a Christian, a follower of Christ, I will stay. We all have strayed, but we need to know we can return. If I am a Christian, I know that.
Our cat was a wild cat when we started feeding it. One day she decided we were ok. Now she lives inside. Still, she likes to go out and we let her out. When I step outside and whistle, she comes back and once she is back, she plays cat and ponders whether or not to come in. If she takes too long to come back, I start whistling and calling because I care about her. I am glad that God cares about us. He never stops calling. If I am a Christian, I will come.
There are many things going on today that we need to consider. If I am a Christian, can I stand the idea of murdering children. Should that even be a consideration. I have compassion for those few instances that some consider reason enough to maintain the whole basket of reasons, but in the end, my heart says no.
If I am a Christian, can I justify lifestyles and relationships that are completely and clearly spoken against by Jesus Himself. I have compassion for those who are so deceived, but I cannot say it is ok and expect Jesus to change His mind. I simply must agree with what the word of God says!
I can imagine that some might have stopped reading and canceled receiving these devotions by now, but I hope not! We really must consider the truth. It is the truth that makes us free. If I am a Christian, I really must take a stand for Christ. If He is my everything, as He should be, I really have a responsibility to represent Him as He has called me to do. We all need to say something!
