IF I DON'T LOVE
...If I knew all the mysteries of the future and I knew everything about everything, but didn't love others, what good would I be? (1Corinthians 13:2 NLT)
We know that nothing can separate us from the love of God. We know a tiny bit about the love of God, and I do mean a tiny bit. His love is so large that it truly is too wonderful to imagine. What is also amazing is that God believes that we are capable of loving the same way. He put that kind of love in us; the tricky part is allowing it to flow thru.
There is no doubt that God is faithful to love us, but in order for us to pass that love on, we have to receive the Love that God gives. I think that many people become frustrated with trying to live the way Jesus says we can because they have not really comprehended how much they are loved. We cannot pass on what we ourselves do not possess. Once we do possess that love, then it will create in us the determination to spread it around. After all scripture is pretty clear that if we do not love, our actions are empty.
How many times have you read or heard the 13th chapter of 1Corinthians and got excited and said, “Yes I can do that, no problem?” And, how many times have you read it or heard it and realized that you missed the mark on many occasions and just wrote it off as not really possible?
Well, according to God, it is not only possible it is the only way to really experience life. So why don’t we get rid of the “No way” thoughts and take on the task in the power of the Holy Spirit? He will help us to be all God says we can be. In fact He sees us there all ready. We simply need to grow into it.
So then let’s begin. We know that God is love. We know that God loves us, and that He has placed in us a new heart that is capable of loving in ways that we never before imagined. First of all this love is patient. You may think that you are not a patient person, but this love is. We need to get over brushing off the truth because we do not think we are what it says. Usually it is not because we cannot do what God says it is because we do not want to. If it is not convenient at that particular time we ignore it.
What do you think would happen if you prayed right now and asked the Lord to help you to manifest the patience that God’s love has placed in you? And then every time you begin to be impatient you would again pray and thank God for helping you to be patient. Well, it would become a habit and soon you would realize that God has truly put in you what you never thought possible.
Let’s face it, even the most patient person runs out of patience sometimes. Fortunately, God never does. Would we want God to measure His patience toward us the same we are patient with others? I doubt it! Unless of course we are allowing His love to be the source of our patience. Are you kind? We start there next time.
