IF IT SEEMS RIGHT
There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. (Proverbs 14:12)
Here we go. It really seemed like the right thing to do at the time! I never really felt right about it, but it seemed right.
Have you ever noticed that when it seems right, there is a good possibility that it is not right? Think about it. When things really are right, it seems right, is not really a consideration.
When we know it is right, it is right. There is a way that only seems right and it leads to death! God says, this is the way, walk in it.
We can be sure what is right. We can ask God for wisdom. We do not have to hope it works out. We can trust in the Lord for the outcome.
God is a great Father. He leads us in paths for righteousness, for His name’s sake. Yes, God is good and we can trust Him. What am I saying? We must trust Him! The thing about must is that we are a little hesitant when it comes to obedience.
We like to think that our opinion matters. Our opinion does matter, but not when it is a choice between us and God.
Seems right, generally comes up when there is something else that really is right. It is like choosing to follow what everyone else is doing. Have you ever been driving down the highway perfectly happy to be driving the speed limit when another car comes flying by you, and you are tempted to follow them? It seems right until you get a ticket. There are a multitude of circumstances in our lives when we find ourselves in a position to compromise and it seems ok to do it, until we realize it may have seemed right, but it never really felt just right.
When Joshua was giving his final message to the people, he told them that if it seemed right to them to rebel against God they certainly could, but he was going to lead his family to serve the Lord. God will make a way when it seems there is no way.
It is very possible that He is leading us when something seems right. He is, after all, our guiding light. The difference is that when God guides us, the thing that seems right, feels right, and moves from just seeming ok, to being the right thing to do.
God tells us to consider our ways. Have you ever been told to look before you leap? Some things we want to do quickly. It is a good idea to duck when someone says duck. But when a crowd is running to loot a store, there is nothing right about that, even if they try to convince others that it is. Things are not always as they seem. James tells us to ask God if we lack wisdom. Seems like good advice.
