IF YOU ARE
If you are the son of God, command that these stones become bread. (Matthew 4:4 NKJ)
One thing that will help us all greatly in our walk with God is confidence in who we are in Him. We either are in Him or we are not. The devils first line of attack when he approached Jesus was an attempt to get Jesus to question who He was. Jesus had no doubts and he also had no need to prove it. He was confident that the Word of God would sustain Him.
We too should be confident that we are who God says we are and that we have what God says we have. If His word says we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, then that is who and what we are and what we have. Thanks to that, we can be sure that the Lord will bless His righteous with favor and surround us as with a shield. (Psalm 5:12) That is one of a multitude of promises to those who are in Christ, but it covers so much. No wonder we are told to shout for joy when we favor God’s plans. He takes pleasure in our well being.
If we are lovers of God we need to act like it. A person recently told me that were big with their church, but they like to have fun too. In other words, this person went to church but their fun came from other sources. Like many people they felt that life and church were separate entities. I responded that I have more fun than the whole group put together. It is not about church, it is about God and the fullness of God. For Jesus, it was not about proving who He was, it was about being who He was and He was good at it. We can be too.
The next attack by the devil was to get Jesus to force God to prove that God meant what He said. Once again, Jesus had no need to play with God and get God to prove Himself. He knew His Father, and He knew His Father was faithful and more than able to do abundantly above and beyond anything the devil had a clew about. Three years later, the devil found out just how far God could lift Jesus!
Finally, because it was obvious that Jesus knew who He was, the devil’s last attempt at this time was to try and bribe Him. Once again, Jesus confidence in God and what was His in God’s kingdom provided Him with more than enough to shut the devil down. Yes once again Jesus gave the devil advice from the Word of God that he detested so greatly. Jesus told him that a person needs to worship the Lord God and only the Lord God.
This must have been an especially bitter pill for the devil to swallow. After all, he knew a bit about worshipping God, but he gave that up and has been miserable ever since. Truly, misery follows people who refuse to worship God. Think about that. The path out of misery is worshipping God.
Remember, the angels that ministered to Him have been given charge over you as well. So know who you are, trust in His word, worship Him, and expect miracles.
