IF YOU CARE

What are people that you should think about them, mere mortals that you should care for them? (Psalm 8:4 NLT)

It is strange how often you hear people question whether or not God really cares. This comes from the mouths of Christians as well as non Christians. Personally, I would like think that I never question God’s integrity like that. Especially with all the times He tells us and shows us just how much He really does care. The real question is, “Do we care?”

Do we care about how God feels? Do we care about what God wants? Do we care about others the way that the Holy Spirit has enabled us to care? Do we care enough to live by faith and not by sight?

I awakened this morning to the words, “Come if you care.” Throughout the day those words just kept coming back to me. As I worked through a stack of other things that were going on, I really was not getting a lot of understanding. There was no scripture I could think of off the top of my head, so I searched for a reference that fit those exact words and still found nothing. I knew there were plenty that spoke of how God cares and that some tell us about caring for others, but none where God said, “Come if you care.”

God’s words are always an invitation to revelation. First of all, God wants us to come to Him. He wants us to be sure of His care for us. When we come to Him we show that we care about His reputation. We show that we trust Him when we come and that shows that we care. It also shows that we know that He cares. And just knowing that God cares for us should provide peace that passes understanding.

As I consider this, I can see lots of statements that can be added to, “Come if you care.” Things like, come if you care to learn of Me. Or, come if you care to be healed. Or, come if you care to be strengthened, comforted, blessed, delivered, or protected. If we really care about others, we need to come to Him first so we know how He wants us to care.

I really do not care to do things without God. They just never work out well. The truth is that if we really care about something we want it to be right. If we care about our nation; if we care about our families and churches, and the world; if we really care, we will go Him. If we really don’t care, then we can just do everything on our own, in our strength.

If we care, we can cast our cares on Him because we know that He cares for us. If we care, we will receive His peace and walk in His victory so that He gets the glory He deserves. If we care about ourselves and others and most importantly about Him, then we should always come to Him. He is so wonderful. Who are we that He should care for us?
