IGNORING THREATS
And now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak Your Word with all boldness, while You stretch Your hand to heal....(Acts 4:29-30a NRSV)
Do you feel threatened when you speak of Jesus? More than likely you do. For the most part in America, there is little threat of physical persecution for expressing our faith in Christ and standing for what is right and moral. But there are threats all the same.
The source of much that keeps us from speaking boldly, is simply lies and accusations from the devil. Still it is true that more people would be offended if you were walking down the street praising God than if you were walking down the street swearing. More people would get uncomfortable if you were singing Amazing Grace that if you were singing a beer commercial or the Ford Truck song.
There is always that threat that standing for what is right could cause you trouble in your job, or in your school, or with friends. No matter what the situation, there will always be reason that you can use to keep your faith private. But is it really a good reason? Why should we feel intimidated about praising God, when others are not bothered at all by cursing Him. The truth is that we shouldn’t, but the fact is that many of us are. Whether the threats we face are real or not, we need to be determined to get the Truth out. The devil wants to stop the truth, and whether we are in China where people are killed for sharing the truth, or in America where we may be laughed at, and yes at times threatened by some sort of consequences, we can not let the Truth be stopped!
What did the servants of the Lord pray for? They prayed for God to grant them that they would speak His Word with boldness. And while they spoke with boldness, they asked that He stretch out His hand to heal, and perform signs and wonders through the Name of Jesus.
If we want to see signs and wonders, and we should! Then we need to pray for God to grant us boldness as well. Boldness not rudeness! We need to truly speak the truth in love. We need to be bold enough to reach out and pray for folks in Jesus Name. We need to ask God and expect Him to do wonderful signs that will make people take note that we have been with Jesus.
Do people know that you have been with Jesus. I am not asking if they know you go to church. But do people know that you have been with Jesus each day, and that He is with you always. A great and notable sign to people may be if we just act like we have been with Jesus. If we live with joy and confidence, doing what is right. Speaking good of people and not evil, and all the while lifting up the Name of Jesus.
Ignore the threats of what people might think, say, or do, and ask God to grant that you might live and speak boldly for Jesus. Then watch what God begins to do around you!
