IMAGINE

Lord, when you bless good people, you surround them with your love like a large shield that protects them. (Psalm 5:12 ERV)

When I was younger there was a song that said, whenever I want you, all I have to do is dream. Some of you may remember that song. It was a love song of course and a good one! Since all good and perfects gifts come from God, I see the whole idea of the song as being easily converted to a worship song! Whenever we have a need, all we need to do is imagine God. All we need to do is dream, dream, dream, dream, dream.

When we look at Jeremiah lamenting in Lamentations 3:17 we see him coming to the place where he forgot everything good and this led him to believe he would never have peace again. He no longer had any hope that the Lord would help him. The longer he stayed in this mind set the further he drifted into hopelessness.

You see, what we think matters. We think as we imagine. So if we can train ourselves to imagine what the Lord has promised. If we can imagine Him always prepared to come to our rescue, and how true and loving and kind and faithful He is; we can overcome all things. Can you imagine being more than a conqueror?

How we see things and how we respond to them matters. What we look for also matters. I was reminded this week of how important it is to fix what needs fixing but not waste time trying to find things that need fixing. Spiritually, we can get caught in a trap of being so insecure and so sure that we are all wrong that we never enjoy God. We can trust Him to lead us in the way. If He shows us something fix, and He will, then it is time to fix it. We simply need to listen and obey as we go.

We also need to avoid the trap of looking for what is wrong in others. Funny how we can find ourselves comforted in some strange sort of way by finding the faults of others. Mostly, I think this helps us keep our eyes away from our own faults. Fault finding in ourselves or others is a trap we need to avoid.

You see, what we look for is what we think about. What we think about is what we talk about and our words affect things. So what can we do? We can pray about what we see. We can release the power of God to help and not to hurt. When we do this, we will look through different eyes. We will look as the Lord looks with an eye to help.

When we see differently, we will think differently and our imaginations will be productive rather than destructive. This will give us greater peace and a confident hope for ourselves and for others. Imagining God will turn anxiety into anticipation. So when you find yourself drifting in your thoughts and words; imagine God’s promises. Imagine Him surrounding you with His love like a large protective shield. Imagine that the shield around you can touch and help others as well. Imagine!
