IMMOVABLE

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:58 NKJ)

In the aftermath of the manifestation of evil that took place this week in the elementary school in Connecticut, we can only weep with those who weep and pray for their joy to return. Only the Lord can heal hearts that are so broken. We who know God must pray for them and for those who do not know God that in the midst of this tragedy evil will be dealt a crushing blow.

When we spoke previously concerning a steadfast heart, God immediately began to impress upon me the need to be immovable as well. Little did I know how this would fit in the midst of such a tragedy; you see, immediately when things like this happen people begin to ask why God allowed this or why He did not stop it and even worse some declare He caused it to teach us a lesson. This is a time when we must be immovable on the goodness of God and the faithfulness of God.

It is true that our nation has done much to keep Christ out of schools so it would stand to reason that if we do not want God there then there is nothing to stop the evil. Even so, we who know God know that He was there immediately to help those children and take them to a pain free eternity. Even though some of them may have already been in training to believe there is no God, He does not desert the innocent. We can be confident of that and we must encourage others with that knowledge.

The next thing we must be willing to do is agree that this was evil on steroids. It was also a sad commercial on choices we make. Our nation promotes choice, and that young man chose to do that terrible thing. People say that God should stop it, but many of those same people might not like it so much if God stopped evil. If this offends you, I am sorry, but there were probably more than twenty babies aborted in Connecticut that same day. I do not know the statistics for sure, but what if God put a stop to that. What if He crushed the doctors before they could do such things? Or the law makers for making the law or the people in favor of choice! If God were to stop all evil, then drunk drivers would die in their cars before they started them. Or perhaps the bartender would die before he could serve the drink. Maybe the breweries and distilleries would be swallowed up in a hole. Just follow the trail where would God stop it?

Sin is sin and evil is evil and it is all a choice. God gives us that choice. If he wiped out sin you would drop dead if you used His name in vain or thought evil of someone. If we voted for evil we would die in the voting booth. We can either be immovable for the things of God or we move away from God. We have no idea what path a person follows to such evil as this young man committed, but if we will be honest we will admit that but for the grace of God there we are.

Jesus said choose life. Christians we must be immovable concerning God. I know that as I have pondered immovable I can see that I have lots of room for improvement. I have the victory in the so called giant things, but there is plenty of fine tuning to be done. God did not create that young man to do such a terrible thing. Just like every other person he was created as an instrument of worship unto God. We are born saying ga ga and goo goo. Perhaps we are saying God is good! We should never stop. It is a choice. Choose life!
