IMPORTANCE METER

Jesus is the stone that you builders thought was not important. (Acts 4:11a ERV)

Going somewhere and getting somewhere are two different things. You can often hear people say that they just feel like they are not getting anywhere. We have all probably had things that we thought were the answer to getting somewhere, only to arrive at that point and realize it was just another point but not the place that satisfies. Or perhaps there was a feeling of accomplishment that was soon followed by looking for something more satisfying!

Where we go and what we do is of course influenced by the importance that we place on the destination. This scripture reminded the religious leaders that they missed the importance of Jesus who was in fact the foundation of what they were supposed to building. It is a reminder to us not to miss the very foundation of life!

It is funny how Christians will expect everyone to see that they need Jesus and at the same time never live like they really believe how important He is. Think about it. If we see Him for Who He is, then we are somewhere everywhere we are. We are complete when we start. We are complete along the way. We can and should be completely satisfied as we continually progress in all the fullness of our salvation.

The only way that those who do not know Jesus will see how important He is, is if they see someone experiencing life with Jesus at the top of their importance meter. So, if as a Christian we are more focused on the struggle than we are on the deliverer, that is what will be evident. Jesus is not a struggle and He did not leave us to struggle. He sent us the Holy Spirit to comfort, strengthen, and lead us into the truth that Jesus overcame the trouble and He still is!

God is not glorified by how much we struggle. He is glorified by how we overcome. Jesus walked this earth in victory and rose from the grave with the ultimate victory. When He ascended into heaven He passed us the baton! We are running the anchor leg with a lead that no one can overtake. We are more than conquerors in the Name of Jesus who always leads us to victory.

So what is most important to you? If you know that Christ is the one who makes you complete, it is important to reveal that you are completely covered in every area of your life and that you are going somewhere with Him. Are you confident in the King of Glory? Psalm 24 tells us to lift up our heads and open the doors and the King of Glory will come in. He will come into every situation and meet every need. Do we believe that? Is His Word good? Does He tell the truth?

It is important that we believe every word that proceeds of the mouth of God. If we go to Him we will find that we are getting somewhere even when we may not see it happening. This will give us confidence to do the most important thing and that is to trust in the Lord. The Bible does not say that we should say we trust in the Lord; it tells us to trust in the Lord. It does not say to believe that the Lord exists; it says believe God! This is important.
