IN THE KNOW

...that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. (Ephesians 1:17 NKJ)

I love it when God interrupts my thinking, don’t you? As I was considering this devotion and I was once again going to be starting in Ephesians, I got to thinking that I should find something in the gospels so that the scripture would come from the words of Jesus. Suddenly the Lord asked me, “Which words in the bible do you think Jesus had nothing to do with? My reply was, “there isn’t one.”

Needless to say, I had the right answer. Since Jesus is the living word, the few that are written in the gospels, along with all the words in the bible, are nothing compared to what He said and is still saying. After all, if God inspired the scriptures, He most certainly continues to inspire you and me. So the best way to avoid being unwise, is to be in the know. And the best way to be in the know is to be filled the revelation of the knowledge of Him. Don’t misunderstand, I am not saying that the scriptures are nothing; I am simply saying that if everything Jesus said were written down there would not be enough paper to contain them. John said that not me, I just happen to believe him!

The answers to everything are found in Him. Whenever we do not know what to do, He does. When we do not know what to say, He does. When we do not know why things are the way the way they are, He does. Wise people seek Him. There are a lot of smart people who do not seek God. These are the very people to whom God gave great gifts, but they are not using them for Him. The bible does not say that smart people seek God; it says that wise people do. In fact, the bible has a way of making the wisdom of the world look foolish. And as long as people still think they are too smart for God, His word is foolishness to them.

I am always saddened when I hear people who are supposed to be bible scholars declare that we cannot take every word of the bible as our source of life. I heard today that one large group declared that we couldn’t take what the bible says about the gay life-style as the final word from God. In other words, they know better than God. May God give them a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him while they are yet breathing!

It is unwise to blindly follow people away from the truth. The way to avoid this is to be filled with Spirit. We need to speak to one another of the good things of God. We need to sing and praise and make His deeds known among all people. We need to practice being full of thanks to God. If we keep our selves in the love of God and fellowship regularly with others who love God, we will be in the know about the things that guarantee life. If on the other hand we surround and feed ourselves on things that take us away from the things of God we will be lured into believing that we are wiser than God. That is unwise.
