INCREDIBLE POWER

I pray that you will begin to understand the incredible greatness of His power for us who believe Him. (Ephesians 1:19 NLT)

I must confess that I am not sure that I can begin to grasp the incredible power of God. I stand amazed at the things that He has created. It makes my head itch when I consider some of the things that he has enabled man to do. The way a computer works and how someone figured out ways to store so much information on just a little chip is beyond my comprehension. And yet I think, “Hey, computers crash, and too many people logging in can over load a system.” But God never crashes! The more people who sign on with Him the smoother He operates. As more people agree, more power is created. Remember, one can turn a thousand and two can turn ten thousand.

I have no problem believing that God is powerful, but it truly is beyond my ability to comprehend just how powerful. After all, He spoke the world into existence. He also has the power to pick it up and shake it. Man has built some powerful bombs, but they fire crackers compared to the power of God.

The Bible speaks of people having a form of Godliness but lacking the power. I really believe that many, and maybe the majority of believers are trapped in this mold. It is the belief that says that God has power and he might help us with it or he might not. However, it is not a present personal power. Jesus said that ‘we’ would receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us.

In Ephesians, Paul was praying that they might begin to understand the incredible greatness of the power of God for all who believe. He was challenging them to at least begin. They needed to step out and begin to understand. Understanding comes with experience. In order to experience something you have put yourself in a place to experience it. You cannot experience a roller coaster by watching it. You have to try it. Just like you have to try Jesus in order to experience a relationship with Him, you also have to desire to experience the power. Many people stand and watch the roller coaster because they don’t want the experience. Some of those same people finally try it and fall in love with the ride. Don’t stand and watch, enter in to the power of God.

Paul knew that if they would just begin to understand, if they would just once experience a taste of the incredible greatness of God’s power, they would be hooked. I think that is why many people travel from conference to conference for the thrill of God’s great power. What they need to do now is to realize that His power is present where ever people seek Him. I know for certain that I have begun to understand and that I am hungry for the power of God. I also know that I have a long way to go before I am anywhere near up to speed. Lord please help us all to desire and to walk with more understanding of your great power.
