INDIFFERENCE
Be diligent and turn from your indifference. (Revelation 3:19 NLT)
I pray that this day finds you diligent and not indifferent. The King James translation challenges us to be zealous and repent. So if you put the two together we could say that if we are not zealous and if we are indifferent, then we need to repent.
If you wonder what the big deal is concerning, Merry Christmas or happy holidays, you may just be indifferent. If you are concerned about offending someone by saying Merry Christmas, you probably are indifferent. And if Merry Christmas offends you, I am sorry to say that you are probably lost! The good news is that Jesus is standing at your door knocking, and if you are indifferent, He is prepared to help you see the difference. If you are lost, He is prepared to save you. If you are diligent, He is prepared to lead you into all truth. We should all answer His knock on a daily basis, many times a day!
It breaks my heart to think of all the years that I spent being indifferent when it came to the good news of Jesus Christ. I just never saw Him as news at all. I knew a bit about Him from years of Sunday school, but He was more of a safety net for the big things! I never really knew for sure if He was there, but hey, when things fall apart you have to hope that something will catch you!
When I finally actually met Him, one of the first things I asked Him was to please make sure that I never went back to where I was. I am happy to say that He has always been faithful to keep me, and I am confident that He will complete the work that He began in me. He is faithful even when I am not.
There is no doubt that when we are diligent or zealous for the Lord, we do offend some people. I never intentionally offend anyone, but the gospel is offensive to some. We all have the choice of being diligent or offended. According to Revelation, God prefers that we be one or the other. Indifference equates to being lukewarm, and that is really offensive to God.
This year is rapidly drawing to a close. People will be making resolutions for next year. It is my prayer that we who know Jesus will end the year drawing closer and never lose our momentum. I pray that those who do not know Jesus will see Jesus in us, and that they will receive the greatest Christmas gift of all. Truly, Jesus makes every day a day that we can celebrate.
If you ever find yourself with an indifferent attitude concerning the things of God, quickly slap yourself and get on track. Be diligent to avoid indifference. God bless you all. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
