INTENTIONAL FAITH
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. (Ephesians 4:2)
When I was kid, we were intentional about getting ready for church. At a certain age, I became the show polisher, so that had to be done. We got dressed up and we got there on time. Unless of course there was a baseball game to get to. I of course preferred those days. Still, preparation was done just so.
Looking, there was nothing intentional about our faith walk. It seems getting there, looking prepared, was the whole thing. Day to day between the days was just us being the Day’s. Things were expected of me because my parents wanted me to represent the family properly. That was good, I am sure, but it was not walking with God like God wanted. When we met Jesus, and moved back to town, my mother said they did not know any better. I simply said, “now we do, let’s go.”
Intentionally walking with God is a choice. Follow. Be determined to complete the race. We have been made more than conquerors. When we recognize a need to pick up the pace, let’s do it.
There are so many other things in the world we live in that we do because we must do them. They become the big deal, and we lose sight of the fact that these are nothing compared to knowing and loving God.
We always sang, “Praise God from whom all blessings flow”. Well, if all blessings flow from God, it seems we would do well to go for the blessings. You know, seek first the Kingdom of God and all these things will be added to us. The truth is, we sometimes have issues with just leaving things and trusting God! It takes effort to form a habit. We need to do it on purpose, which is intentionally.
Always be humble and gentle. How easy is that? Be patient and make allowance for each other’s faults. These things don’t just happen. The only love that can accomplish these things is God’s love dwelling in us. The kicker is us, being willing to let it work. We have all that we need to accomplish all that God desires. We need to desire to let the lion loose!
We are the only ones who can overcome the excuses. We say things, like, “I am not like that.” Yes, we are if we are in Christ!
Hebrews 6 urges us to get on with our faith. Go deeper. We will never learn to swim if we keep wading in the shallow end. Verse 11 reminds us to keep going for the things we hope for and 12 tells us that if we do that, we won’t become dull and indifferent.
Listen. We will not accidentally fall into heaven. Why would we want to. If God is not important here, it would be torture to spend eternity with Him. Besides, we miss so much when we do not enter into the joy He provides. The door is wide open. Go for it.
