IRRESISTIBLE
And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.(Acts 6:10)
Have you ever considered the fact that the Spirit and Wisdom of God are irresistible. It may not look like it, but it is. The word of God always penetrates and always brings about a response. Just because it may not bring the results we want, does not mean that it did not accomplish what it was sent out to do.
Stephen spoke words that penetrated the hearts of those who were about to judge him. There was such a presence of God upon his words, and glory of God surrounding him, that when they looked at him they saw his face as the face of an angel. Even with all of this, their response was to stone him. This of course is not what we think of when we consider people receiving the Word of God! We think that if a person receives the Word they get saved and become a faithful follower of Jesus. But we must remember that some receive the word with gladness and some kill it. In either case, it has penetrated.
When God opened my eyes to this scripture recently, I wrote a note asking God to put this anointing in all of us, so that our wisdom and spirit would be irresistible. He said, “it already is! The way that people respond does not change the Word and Spirit of God.” So then I could see that people either receive the Word or kill it.
With this in mind, I am encouraged that we all should speak the word with more boldness and confidence, knowing that God is putting it to use no matter what we see with our physical eyes, we can be sure that things are happening in the spirit. That is why we can speak of things that are not as though they are. Of course, by faith we all know this. Right!!
So, that takes care of how to handle those on the outside of the kingdom. What about those on the inside. What about those in the family of God, who resist the Word and the Works of God. We have to wonder why anyone would want to resist. And yet if we are honest, we all have to plead guilty at times to resisting what we know God is speaking to us.
Perhaps if we could just see that when we obey we give life to the Word and when we resist we kill it. Wouldn’t you think it would have been enough for the council to see Stephen looking like an angel. But no, they could not hear anything that would get them out of their religious rut. Things had to be right according the way they wanted it. We have to be careful that we are not guilty of this same attitude. It is time that we all figured out that it is more important to be righteous in God’s eyes than it is to be right in our own eyes!!
So, whether we are on the outside of the kingdom or inside, we may bow our necks, but the truth is we are not able to resist. We simply choose life or death. So, choose life!!!
