IS ANYONE THIRSTY
Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink--even if you have no money! Come and take your choice of wine or milk--it's all free!(Isaiah 55:1 NLT)
In order to live, we must drink. We can actually survive for quite a long time with out food, but lack of water quickly takes its toll. A lack of liquids will cause drowsiness, loss of energy, muscle cramps, along with many other things, and ultimately death. A lack of the living water does the same to our spiritual life.
It is thirst that first causes us to seek God. We don’t realize it at the time, but that is what it is. I do not know how, but the Holy Spirit manages to draw us by revealing an emptiness in our lives. At this point, many come and drink and drink as though they can not get enough to drink. This is good. But then, we must exercise our faith, so that we remain thirsty and continue to drink.
Just as we need liquids to aid in the digestion of natural food, so it is that drinking of the living water helps us to digest the meat of the Word of God. The Holy Spirit breaks it down and causes it to flow through our system. He gives us understanding and the confidence and strength to work the word out in our life. He also gives us wisdom as to what food is good for our soul and what does us no good. Taking in the word without the living water, is like eating and eating and never taking in liquids. It becomes very uncomfortable, and will eventually make you very sick, even unto death.
God says “If you are thirsty, come and drink.” Some people get thirsty, but then for some reason will not drink. Other people come to the fountain because it is the thing to do, but in truth they really are not thirsty for the things of God. Basically, these people come and hold a cup, God fills the cup, but they never put it to their mouths. God wants us to get thirsty and to drink.
Some people say that it just does not have the same effect on them as it does on others. I remember when I used to drink and take drugs; sometimes it took a long time, but if I was persistent, they would eventually take effect. This is what I say to people who do not think the Word of God will work for them, or they say that God does not effect them that way. Just keep at it. Keep seeking. Keep pressing. Keep drinking. God is faithful.
Thirsting for God and drinking His living water, will prepare us to come to Him with ears wide open.(Vs. 3) We must realize that the life of our souls is at stake. He is ready to make an everlasting covenant with all who will come and partake of it. He has already done His part. Everything we need awaits us!
God open our eyes to see what you have prepared for us so that we might experience all the life that is in You.
