IS GOD SUFFICIENT
But godliness actually is a source of great gain when accompanied by contentment, that contentment which comes from a sense of inner confidence based on the sufficiency of God. (1 Timothy 6:6 AMP)
The obvious answer to the question is, “yes, God is sufficient!” He is above all things. Nothing is impossible for God. He is trustworthy and perfect in every way. There is no doubt that God is sufficient.
If all of this is true, and it is, why do we forget it? We even tell ourselves all the reasons He is bigger than our problems while we are so focused on our problems that we won’t believe ourselves. We agree with others as to what God tells us in His word while we are thinking that the current situation is out of God’s reach.
Is God sufficient in the midst of a pandemic? Did God hear our prayers concerning this pandemic? Can we recover from this? Why do we doubt and fear and pay more attention to the experts that we do to God.
Do not misunderstand me, I believe we need to be wise but we also must stay focused on the Lord to who is able to do abundantly above and beyond what we can hope or imagine.
Did God do this? Some say yes and some say no. I say, “I don’t know.” I really do not need to know. What I need to do is what we all need to do and that is to look unto God who is the author and finisher of our faith.
We should look to every circumstance good or bad, as an opportunity to grow in our confidence in the sufficiency of God. How many times have we worried, doubted, lost sleep, and all but given up, only to find that in the end, God is sufficient. We don’t always get what we want, but He is still the one who quiets our soul and strengthens us. He is the one picks us up and comforts us. He is our testimony. We don’t see how He did it but we know He did.
We should remember what He did before and have confidence that He can do even more. I awoke this morning thinking about Jesus riding a donkey. Some translation say he was riding, excuse my language, an ass. I thought about Him humbling Himself in so many ways and how even today as Christ is in us, He rides in donkeys from time to time.
We are not always perfect, but He sticks with us. Our responses are not always what they should be. We may be fearful. We may be slow to come to the fullness of our faith at times, but He sticks with us. Remember, He is faithful even when we are not.
The bottom line is that God is sufficient. The current state of the world is the worst that many of us have experienced but, fear not. God is sufficient. That is Good News.
