IT IS TIME
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on the things on the earth. (Colossians 3:1-2)
We have spent a considerable amount of time in the midst of this Corona virus pandemic. It has caused difficulties for everyone and everyone has handled it differently. We have prayed for those who have suffered and for the families of those who have died. Some have determined do all they can to help others while have some have made it more difficult. Now we are thinking it is time to turn the world back on! We pray for a great restart.
Well the truth is obviously that it has not actually turned off! A lot has been going on; just not all that we have been used to. Some of the new things will probably last for a long time and some things we used to do all the time may just stay in the past. Time will tell.
Last week was filled with Jesus and His last words on the cross. “It is finished.” We can’t wait for this pandemic to be finished. That is why we are anxious to get back to life. Hopefully during this time we have found that life can be different and still good and maybe some things that we have left behind need to stay behind. Everyone will make their own choices in that.
The final words of Jesus implied that what was was finished and it was time for something new. Every day with Jesus is time for something new. Paul points out that it is time to look to different things. Looking above opens our eyes to removing some things below; it means that it is time to change. Look at everything we changed in order to stop the spread of the virus. It has been inconvenient to stay the least. Our lives have put on a hold, but even though there is resistance there has also been a lot of compliance.
The same is true when it comes life in Christ. There is often a great deal of resistance. For some, it seems they never had any intention changing anything. God does change things though; He just does. I mean really, if we want to spend eternity with God we should want to walk with Him here.
We need to distance ourselves from the things that God wants to protect us from. I am a hand shaker and a hugger, but right now that is not what we do! I was a lot of things before Christ that I no longer am. And the things that still need changing are made very clear to me by God. He is not bashful! I just need to make sure I am not stubborn. We can all do a good job of being stubborn. We can choose to complain while we comply or we can just comply!
It seems like forever since we met together for church. Oh I miss that! But, it is what is asked of us. I have learned to enjoy meeting with as many as possible using the wonders of technology. Even in this God is present and doing a great deal. It is a great time draw closer to God.
