IT MUST HAPPEN
But how then would the scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way? (Matt 26:54 NIV)
How do we know when it is time? Ecclesiastes tells us there is a time and a purpose for all things. I have wondered what was it that determined the exact time for Jesus to go to the cross. The simple answer of course is that God said it was time and Jesus did what God said.
I have found in my life that there are things that can be put off with no real cost and other things that need to be done at a certain time. God’s timing is perfect! From the human perspective it looked like the ministry was going the great and the folks we beginning to catch on, but they needed a little more help. Jesus said it was time now.
He left them with a promise that He would send the Holy Spirit to guide them. Have you ever been left with nothing but a promise? Have you ever been confused by circumstance? Of course you have. To be honest, nothing about the gospel makes human sense until we allow the Holy Spirit to work His miracle in our lives.
I started to consider this because I have not yet shaved! I said I was thinking about it! I am not really putting it off. It just is not at the top of my priorities. Some things it is ok to just think about or talk about; other things require more sudden action.
Jesus talked about what was coming for quite awhile. Sometimes He mentioned out of the blue and other times He got right down to the whole story. It seemed like it did not matter how He spoke of it, they really did not get it. I think that was because they did not want to think about it. We all have things like that too; things that we just push on over our heads or wave them off and hope that ignoring them will make them go away.
It finally came to the point where they had to admit He was speaking plainly. They almost had a handle on it, but when He was arrested; off they ran. It was just like He said. It is very beneficial for us when we begin to understand that things will always be just as He says.
I can put off shaving and it really does not make any huge difference in my life. However, if the Lord were to say it is time to shave the only time lapse would be between the time he said it and me getting to the clippers.
Jesus never had a problem with knowing exactly what God said to Him. I want to get there. I know that He speaks clearly, so it is my hearing that needs fine tuning. I am so glad that He is always right. I want to be right with Him. I want the things that He wants to happen to happen! There will always be outside input into our decisions, but the important opinion is His.
