IT SHOWS
They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus. (Acts 4:13 NLT)
There is really nothing like spending time with Jesus. It is also the one thing that stirs up the most resistance in our lives. If the devil had his way, we would never have time for God. There is a good reason that we are told to fight the good fight of faith. We are told to press in and press on. We are told that if we submit ourselves to God and resist the devil, he will flee.
It shows when we take the time to be with God. It also shows when we do not. We can know what the bible says and not know how to experience it. We can talk about Him and not know Him. We cannot know Him unless we spend time with Him. We will not spend time with Him if we do not desire Him. We will not desire Him if we do not experience Him.
When we experience Him, we experience what I have come to describe as the –˜complete you!’ It may be only a moment but it is a great moment. It is a great enough moment to cause us to want more moments like it. It is the peace of God. As I wrote in a song when I was first saved, “The peace that comes upon you when you give your life to Him is a high that far surpasses any high that’s found in sin.” You see, the enemy has counterfeited the complete you in so many things and none of those are ever complete. Being with Jesus is the only real deal.
Being with Jesus makes the impossible invisible. In other words, all things are possible with God. We truly can cast our cares on Him. We can turn from anything and everything to God.
With Jesus, we take the authority over afflictions. Afflictions come at us from everywhere, but we determine how afflicted we are. Afflictions can come from something as simple as a traffic light or something as big as a doctor’s diagnosis and everything in between.
Our first response to that may be, “It is not that simple!” Or our response might be, “That makes sense!” There are of course many responses in between those two.
The more time we spend experiencing God, the easier it is for Him to drop nuggets into our lives. There are nuggets He drops into my life that I chew on for some time before I share them and some that may never go beyond my private conversations with Him.
There are also some that He simply says to release while I am still trying to grasp them. Making the impossible invisible was one such thought. When He said, “You determine how afflicted you are”, that was another one.
The disciples did something after their encounter that is key in my mind. They prayed and asked God for more. With more we are more than conquerors. It is all in Christ Jesus.
