IT'S ALL ABOUT TRUST

Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife...(Matthew 1:24 NKJ)

I was thinking about all of the things that we do that require us to trust each and every day, and found it to be a long list. For instance, when we fill our cars with gas, we trust that it is good gas and the right kind of gas. We don’t go in and make sure that they checked the tanks that day to be sure it is what it says! We go to the grocery store and we trust that the food is good. Even though we often have recalls all over the news, we still go to the store and trust that they have taken care of the problem. We trust teachers to teach our children. We go to doctors and trust them to help us. We mail letters and send packages and trust that they will arrive at their destination. We take money to the bank and trust them to keep it safe. This is only the short list. I am certain as you think about it that you can add an even longer list of your own.

Now just imagine what life would be like if you had no trust for even the simplest things. It would be a very difficult life. In fact it just would not really be life at all. In the same way, we cannot hope to live in the rest God if we doubt everything He says. However, if we will practice trusting and spending time in His word, we will begin to see that He is more trustworthy than all of these other things put together.

In the case of Joseph, he was a bit troubled about a pregnant fiancé that he knew he had not been with. So, God sent an angel to Joseph to tell him not to worry about taking Mary for his wife. When Joseph woke up, he had a choice and he chose to trust what the angel said.

I look at these things and I think, “If I can trust all of these other things in my daily life, why in the world shouldn’t I just take God at His word and trust Him?” I am smart enough to tell myself that I should, and by the grace of God I will trust Him more each day until I come to the place that it is more natural to expect God to perform miracles than it is to expect the gas pump to have the right gas for my car.

Think about it. The gas pump says to put the handle into our car, and pull the trigger and gas will flow into our tank, so that is what we expect. God says that if we trust Him rivers of living water will flow out of us. God says to tell a mountain to move and it will move. God says to seek first His Kingdom and everything will be added to us. Jesus said that if His words abide in us and if we abide in Him, we can ask anything of God and it will be done. What is a gas pump compared to that?

I don’t know about you, but I have just convinced myself that if I can believe a gas pump, I surely should be able to believe God. It is all about trust. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and He shall direct your paths. Blessed are they who put their trust in the Lord!
