JEALOUS

For I am jealous for you with the jealousy of God Himself. (2 Corinthians 11:2 NLT)

Recently, we have considered the thought that all God wants is you. You are His great desire! Every lover of God has wondered what can I do? How can I be better? Do I really please God? In other words, we do our best to complicate a relationship that God has chosen. If we will only present ourselves to Him, He is able to accomplish the rest with our willingness. So, we can daily give ourselves to Him, confident that we are His great desire. It is well worth our time to consider this…often. As often as we need to until we know it is true.

As I have chewed on this amazing thought, the word Jealous keeps coming up. In Exodus God told the people that He was a jealous God. He was, is, and always will be jealous for our attention and affection. In order to be jealous, we must care.

We know He cares for us. Some jealousy is deeply rooted, other things that are described as jealousy are more rooted in covetousness. In other words, we are jealous of what someone else has, when actually we just want what they have.

God is jealous for us! He wants us! He has spent our lifetime with a focus to have us choose Him. Go ahead and add passionate jealousy to how God feels about you. Remember, God is not like us, so His jealousy is beyond what we can really imagine.

We often add anger to our jealousy, but God adds more compassion. When Jesus stood and wept over Jerusalem, it was His compassionate jealousy. Oh, how He longed to gather them in. It is that love and desire.

When we are jealous, we can do strange things. We can get jealous and walk away from a relationship. Some go so far as to do bodily harm out of jealousy. In this day and age, people resort to social media to do harm to those they are jealous of. There is certainly a wide range of jealous manifestations, but the kind of Jealousy God has is pure and love based.

Paul was writing to the Corinthians when he told them that he was jealous for them with the same kind of jealousy as God Himself.

He was jealous for them to have and to be all that God promised. Just as a mother is jealous for her own children’s love and success so it is with God for you and for me.

God is not jealous for us to prove our love and devotion. He is simply jealous for us. Think about what satisfies your need for someone. You want them to pay attention to you. You want them to look at you and see you. You want them to trust you. You want them to spend time with you.

Paul was warning the people of His concern that they might get distracted and corrupted. Relationships fall apart as a result of distractions that corrupt. God is jealous for your love. It is as simple as that! He simply wants you so much that He is jealous. Give yourself. Just give yourself!
