JESUS CARES

"Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?" (Mark 4:38 NKJ)

Never, even for a moment, entertain the thought that Jesus does not care about you. Even if you do not know Him or believe in Him, He still cares for you. He cared enough to die for us; He most certainly would not stop caring now. Still, the moment things are not going just the way we would like; one of the favorite tricks of the enemy is to suggest that Jesus does not care. Settle it in your heart and mind once and for all, “Jesus Cares.”

The first thing Jesus did was take care of the storm. Then He asked why they were so fearful. Fear always negates faith, or as one brother puts it, fear is faith in the devil. Fear is faith that things will go bad. Jesus questioned why they had no faith. They had already witnessed His power on many occasions and still they doubted.

In Mark chapter 5 we see that demons tremble in Jesus presence, a woman sick for years and years is healed just touching his robe, and a girl is raised from the dead. How could they doubt. When they went to Jesus hometown they witnessed how the lack of faith limited what the people received. Then Jesus gave them an opportunity to go out and do the “stuff” themselves.

We have no idea how much Jesus cares. I wonder how difficult it was for Jesus to keep from going and rescuing His cousin John. He could have spoken a word and Herod’s jail would have opened and John would have been released. Jesus cared enough to want to take the disciples and go to the desert and get away for bit, but there was no time. The people followed them and He had compassion on them. Jesus cared too much to ignore them and He would not leave them without meeting their physical and spiritual needs. Never think Jesus cares more about anything else than He cares about you.

When they were done with the people, Jesus sent the disciples on ahead of Him in the ship. I find it comforting that He did not send them and forget about them. He saw them toiling against the wind. I wonder if it ever occurred to them to speak to the wind like Jesus did. Do you suppose any of them said, “I wish Jesus was here, He would take care of this wind?” It would seem that they still did not quite get it. When Jesus came walking on the water they were afraid, but because Jesus cared, He talked to them telling them not to be afraid and went to them in the boat. Once again the wind ceased and they were amazed. Somehow, they just could not seem to put two and two together to figure out that nothing was impossible for Jesus.

Jesus is the same today. He cares for us. He knows when we are in storms. He walks toward us waiting for our call. He will never leave or forsake us. No matter what it may look or feel like, our best interest is always His priority. Even if we do not care for Him, he cares for us. How can we not love Him?
