JESUS KNEW
Jesus knew that the Father had given Him authority over everything and that He had come from God and would return to God. (John 13:3 NLT)
Have you ever been in a situation where you could do something, but did not feel like you should do it? Jesus knew that He had all authority and power and that He could call down an army of angels and wipe out everyone who came against Him, but going to His Father was more important to Him.
This is why it is important that we always seek the Lord to find out what is the best thing to do. God taught me this lesson many years ago when I was convinced that I should travel as a musical evangelist. I was singing when He saved me, so I was certain that this was the course I should take.
A friend of mine knew that I was looking for a trailer and called me one day telling me that he knew where there was one I might be interested in. Well I prayed, and God said that I could buy that trailer for a certain amount of cash. So I went to the bank and got the cash and Vikki and I headed off to get this ministry tool. When we got to the place we found a nice travel trailer but it just did not feel like home, so we turned around and headed home.
As we drove, I was confused and trying to figure out what in the world this trip was all about. I asked the Lord why in the world it had turned out like it did. It was then that He told me, “I said you could buy it, I did not say you should buy it.” He used this experience to teach me more about listening as I went. We most certainly could have gone ahead and purchased the trailer, but it would have been a bit of a white elephant sitting in our yard at the time.
You see, God knew some things I did not know at the time. Can you imagine that? He knew that we were not going anywhere. He had some plans for a little bible study we were part of that we did not know about. It would take a small book just to go through all that I learned and am still learning from this experience.
We may not always understand what is going on, but if we will seek the Lord and make pleasing Him our fist priority, we will stay on the blessing path.(vs.17) It does not matter if we look a bit foolish at times. We left town with cash to get a trailer that the Lord said we could get and came back with the same cash for a reason that only someone who has learned the same lesson could really understand.
Nothing that Jesus did leading up to His death and resurrection made much sense to anyone at the time. Praise God that He did not do what He could have done, but instead He did what He had to do for our sake. Jesus knew getting to His Father was most important. We need to ask ourselves what is most important in our lives.
