JESUS LOOKS FOR FAITH

But when the Son of Man returns, how many will He find on earth who have faith? (Luke 18:8)

“I do not look for faults, I look for faith!” We sort of know this, and yet we tend to focus on faults. Since we look for faults in others, we tend to ascribe to the idea that faults are what God looks for.

Let’s face it, faults are easy to spot. They are obvious to God and to people. Add to that, the fact that God knows our thoughts. He knows the words we are tempted to say. He knows everything!

The good news is that He is looking for faith! When faith increases, faults decrease. The more we look to Jesus the more we are transformed into His image. Without Him, we cannot do anything, but with Him, we can do all things.

If we work on our faults, what are we focusing on? On the other hand, when we work on our faith, drawing closer to God, we focus on Him. That is what He is looking for. There is a song that says, He looked beyond my faults and saw my need. We need faith in God!

As I considered this, I pictured my car full of flies. That happens you know. Most of us open the windows and head down the road so they blow out. When we speed toward God a lot of bugs blow off.

Frequently, as it happens, one or even two flies will manage to hang around to bug us. We go to some extreme effort to get rid of them and it is a relief when they are gone. Likewise, some things are slower to change in our lives, but if we keep seeking and growing in our faith in God, we are destined for victory. This is our victory, even our faith.

Lord, right now I open my windows to learn of you. I accelerate my faith. Clear away my bugs. Thank you Lord.

Be still and know that I am God. Slow down. Stop even. Think about the Lord. As I considered how God looks for faith, and since I was blowing out the bugs, it occurred to me that faith is more like driving a stick shift than an automatic. For those who perhaps have not driven a stick, you are required to take your foot off the gas, and push in the clutch, before you change gears.

Of course, we can seek God at any speed, and He can and will speak to us, but there is something about letting up on the gas and pushing in the clutch and pulling over to the side of the road of life and just looking to our amazing Lord that is special.

If you learned to drive a stick, or a motorcycle, you know there is a lot of satisfaction when you can have a smooth take off and work your way through the gears. So it is, each time we let up on the gas of life and slip into our secret place with God. wait patiently.

I am pretty sure that I used to go to church and never shut off my engine or took it out of gear. I was ready to get on with life, not have a change in life! I am glad that the shift took place. We all need to shift regularly. There are a lot of gears in our walk of faith. Remember, God looks for faith!
