JUST A TRICKLE
...And there was water flowing from under the threshold of the temple... (Ezekiel 47:1b NKJ)
Usually when you find a trickle of water you know that behind the trickle is a much larger supply. In the case of a leak in a pipe, the trickle is caused by a lot of pressure behind it. As I continue to seek the Lord concerning grace, I am reminded of this scripture in Ezekiel where the stream starts as a trickle and leads to water to swim in. These waters are waters of life and healing. The grace or special favor and blessing of the Lord is exactly that, however I think that we are only experiencing a trickle at this point. This is not because the deep waters are not available, but rather because we are only beginning to gain an awareness of what is out there.
I really believe that God’s grace is under pressure ready to flood at every opportunity. This grace floods anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord. Even though it is unmerited favor, it is still so special and such a blessing as it provides for salvation. As we have discussed, once we are in the family, it becomes a continual source for blessing and favor and is no longer unmerited.
As we begin to understand this we have the opportunity to move into the deeper water. No doubt some will desire to wade slowly up stream testing the waters, while others will take off running till they get to where they can swim. The most important thing for us all to remember is to be careful not to do anything that will stop the flow.
After all, just as we have the choice of receiving salvation, we also have the choice of receiving the continual blessings of His grace. Of course it is under such pressure that from time to time it just pours out on us as God continues to court us in an attempt to gain our love and attention. Often times I think He must stand back and ask what in the world more He must do in order please us. Fortunately, He is God and not a man, so He does not give up.
He continues to reach out to the lost. He continues to pour Himself into people so that they will reach out and speak boldly of His grace. He continues to reveal Himself in greater and greater measure in an attempt to draw us more into His truth. His great desire is that we will make it our goal to get to the deep waters and not just walk away.
I know that at different times I have plunged into great places in God, but then for some reason I find myself once again near or on the shore. Thinking of this makes me feel like an ungrateful child. If only God would hook a weight to my foot and hold me fast in middle of the flow, but of course He won’t. It is up to me to resist the waves and currents that work so hard to crash me onto the shore.
How sweet it is to once again experience His special favor and blessing as He laughs, takes my hand and pulls me into greater depths of His grace. Reach out. He will pull you in too!!
