JUST COME

"Because of this, I will do wonders among these hypocrites. I will show that human wisdom is foolish and even the most brilliant people lack understanding." (Isaiah 29:14 NLT)

Why in the world would God do wonders among a bunch of hypocrites? I guess the answer is obvious. They need to see them. Now those who are strong in faith must be careful not to let religion take over their thinking and determine that God should stay far away from those who do not love Him the way they think they should. We should be more than happy when God moves anywhere in the world. But the truth is, if something good starts happening in the church down the street; well, you know the feeling.

As I read this chapter in Isaiah, I just kept getting one message. It was like God was saying, “Just come.” The more I thought about it, the more I realized that it is the same message throughout the Word of God. Everywhere, God is saying, “Just come.”

When He is speaking about destruction, He is telling us all we have to do to avoid it is to come to Him. He tells us to come when we are afraid, when we are sick, when we are good, and when we are bad. He just wants us to come. The people were not worshiping Him with their hearts, so He was going to show them some wonders to impress them and help them to get it down on the inside of them? What kind of plan is this? A good one of course! We might be more inclined to say that they made their choice let them live with it. But not God, He is going to go the extra mile or ten thousand, what ever it takes, to give them the opportunity to come.

When He asks how stupid can they be in verse 16, or declares sure destruction for those who hide their plans in verse 15, He is just trying to get them to see that the only place they need to be is with Him. From there, God goes right into telling of some of the wonders He is going to do. It is like He is saying, “Don’t you want to be a part of all of this? You can you know. Just come.”

The call to come is not just a call for salvation. It is a call to the saved as well. No matter what is going on in our lives, He just wants us to come. When we feel stuck in the desert, He promises lush and fertile fields. We may be in a desert of finances, health, or a mental desert, but nothing is to big a problem for God to help. He says the deaf will hear and the blind will see. This includes the spiritually deaf and blind as well as the physically impaired. He says the humble and the poor will rejoice and those who harass will be gone, and those who plot evil will be killed. Hey, how does one stay out of those last two categories? That is easy isn’t it? Just come.

Do you begin to sense it as you read this. All God wants is you. At the end of the chapter He has so many blessings planned for you that it will be obvious to those around you. People will stand in awe of God. Those in error will believe the truth and even those who constantly complain will receive instruction. Wow! Just come!
