JUST HAVE FAITH

Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus "Don't be afraid. Just have faith." (Mark 5:36 NLT)

Sometimes, those words can seem pretty empty. Just have faith. We have our faith. Keep the faith! They can be the emptiest of all words, if we do not understand the fullness of what Jesus was saying to Jairus and to all who would listen closely to those words even now. The Easy to Read bible says that Jesus did not care what the people said, He told the man to just believe that his daughter would be healed.
So when Jesus spoke of having faith, it was not an empty promise. It was a promise that had purpose. It was not just to pacify the man and encourage him for a bit so that he could weather thru the storm. Jesus wanted him to expect results and a reward for believing.
Yes, Jesus is very much there for us to comfort us in great trials. Things do happen that would tear us to pieces if we let them, but even then, He is more than up to the task. Still, we should not relegate Jesus to holding our hands in the midst of the defeat. We should have faith and believe that He is able to do more that we can hope or imagine. We should hold on like Jairus did. We should not care what we hear or even see that comes against the promise of God.
All the way home, Jairus had to keep believing. He could have dismissed Jesus right when he was first told of his daughter’s death, but he chose to trust his original plan. Think about it. He left his dying daughters side because he believed Jesus could heal her. I have always thought of him feeling a little put out as he had to wait for the woman who was healed to tell her story, but it occurs to me now that her testimony probably contributed to his faith, just as your testimony can help someone else’s faith.
So, even with the words ringing in his ears of his daughter’s death, he chooses to believe and keep standing in faith. Now, imagine him getting close to home and hearing all the weeping and wailing going on; what a battle he was in. Still, Jesus words rang in his head. Then he is confronted in person by the declarations of her death and of course the people laughing at Jesus and mocking His statement that she is just sleeping.
Wow, talk about good news! She is only asleep. But then they step into the room and she is obviously dead! Now what? Just have faith. Keep believing. But it is so hard. His heart is breaking. But then, Jesus steps up and takes her hand and she wakes up. Thank you Jesus!
How important is it to have a word from God? Jairus had a word from the Lord. We need to hear His voice and then hold on to what He says. Listen. Encourage others. Expect to hear. Have faith. Believe Him. He does not make any empty promises.
