JUST HOLD ON

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. (Psalm 23:1 NLT)

Pick a word from God. Any word; and just hold on to it. Whatever word speaks to you; hold on to it. God is faithful. We know this is true, but we also know that there is so much around us that tries to rob us of His faithfulness. Make up your mind to just hold on.
Motorcycle season is always such a blessing to me. Yes, I thoroughly enjoy riding, but even more I enjoy the voice of the Lord as I ride. Recently, God has spoken to me about just riding the bike. It can handle the road if I do not interfere. This of course, is like faith. God can handle it and a relationship with God is a ride. Even when it seems otherwise, we just need to ride with Him.
This last week as we rode and He reminded me again of just how capable the bike was and even more so how capable he is, he said the a relationship with Him is like riding. We are along for the sheer joy of it, even if it is a bit hard at times, still the joy of the Lord is our strength. Religion, on the other hand is more like trying to drive and maintain the control.
On a motorcycle, as you drive the straight and long roads, that is the time when you really need to be careful. It is possible to veer off course if you don’t watch. That is kind of like faith. If things are going well, we need to be careful to maintain our gratitude and our watchfulness for the things of the Lord. The difficult times are like riding the curves; you pay attention and ride along as the bike takes care of things. We just need to hold on.
Well of course when it comes to the struggles of life, we have the promises of God. We need to be cautious that we do not try to take over and drive. We just hold on to Him. Over and over I watched as the bike would navigate curves. Of course I paid attention but when it was tempting to take over, I would hear the Lord say, “Ride it.” And then He would tell me more about how I could trust Him and about times in the past when that was just I did and how well He handled things.
He reminded me of times when things did not go the way I planned, but I was blessed to simply figure He knew best. You see, I drove my life for 30 years. When I came to the Lord, I decided I may as well learn to ride along. Nearly thirty years later, He put me on a motorcycle and has used it to teach me.
He has shown me how I would have been off course with my driving, but by riding and holding on I have been blessed. I recently read of a worship leader who decided to give up being a Christian. Oh that just shook me and I prayed that God would keep me from ever doing that. Let him who thinks he stands take heed. The key is to just hold on. Ride with God.
