JUST SHOW UP
The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue them and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”(Psalms 91:14-16 NLT)
This week as I spent time with Lord considering the Day of Prayer I was impressed with the words, Just show up! You see, I don’t consider myself to be a great prayer, but I still pray. Most times I think the less I say the more I accomplish. That way my words do not get in the way of the Lord. So as I expressed this to the Lord I felt Him say that the important thing was to show up!
Have you ever volunteered for something and not really known exactly what your assignment was going to be? Once you show up someone will have a plan. If you show up, then you will do what the plan calls for. If you don’t show up; you miss the opportunity.
Jesus made a point of letting us all know that we are important in different ways, but important all the same. Once in Russia, I went to a prayer meeting. Everyone was mingling and talking and then some said it was time to pray. Suddenly like a light being switched on everyone was in action. For me, it was like everyone praying in tongues. I only understand a few words of Russian, but I knew there was a lot of praising the Lord going on. I listened and prayed but not loudly. Then all of a sudden the switch was shut off and they were done. Someone asked me why I did not pray. When I explained that I was praying that was all they needed. I did not feel attacked and they did not feel a need to explain that I was not praying because I was not doing it the way they were. Basically, I was there and I felt like I had been in on something.
When Jesus called the disciples, He simply said follow me. I will make you fishers of men. Or He said come down from the tree, or I saw you under the tree now follow me. He just wanted them to show up.
In the garden He asked them to watch with Him. He said come unto me all of you are weak and heavily burdened and I will give you rest. Just show up!
If you are like me, you have had times where you felt like you had little to offer. Or you got in the trap wondering what you would be able to do. If you will let Jesus take the pressure off you will be more comfortable showing up. When God asked who He could send, Isaiah said he was willing. Are you willing? Of course you are. Do you have something to offer? Of course you do. Just show up and you will be amazed at the freedom you have when you do. Love God and show up!
