JUST SO MANY WORDS

For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.(Heb.4:12 NKJ)

People who do not know better, often refer to the Bible as just a book. It is just so many words, like any other book. It is of little or no importance in their lives, at least that is what they think, but oh what are they missing.

I guess we can expect this sort of a reaction to the word of God from people who really do not know Him, but it is another story when we who describe ourselves as “born again” Christians fail to realize the importance of the Word of God and of the words that we speak.

If we will line up the words we speak, with the Word of God, we may be amazed at what begins to happen in our lives. I am not talking about positive confession here, though it is good to be positively in the word of God. Rather I am talking about saying what God says we should be saying.

Some could think of this as kind of knit picky, but just this. In stead of saying, “I am just to tired,” what if we said, “I am so glad that God’s strength is made perfect in my weakness.” Or, “I sure am glad that Christ strengthens me.” What sounds better? Better yet, what sounds best to God? What will most quickly get His attention?

Since Christ strengthens us, we do not want to go around with weak and faithless words do we? Hebrews tells us that God’s Word is living and powerful. So we want to speak words that give life. We want to speak words that make something happen. The Bible says we will be judged for every idle word. No wonder Jesus warned us to pray, “forgive us our sins!” How many idle words did you speak today. No, I do not have the definitive definition of idle, but I am certain that I speak more idle words than I should and I want to change that. And I really want to get negative and judgmental words out of my life

Bear in mind, that this is not intended to condemn, but rather to create an awareness in all of us, of the importance of God’s Word and of our words. Otherwise, the bible is, in fact, just so many words. The promises that God makes to us all, are only good for those who receive them. The words that the prophets spoke had to be acted on. Jesus said that prophecy must be fulfilled. If it is not, then it is just words.

The challenge for us is whether or not we are willing to allow the Word of God to live in and through us. Are we willing to believe in the power of His Word and use it to bring Him glory and advance the kingdom of God. If we are, then it truly is the Word of Life. If on the other hand we have no faith, and will not allow the Word to work its wonders in our life, then it is just so many words for us. But that does not change what it really is to them that believe.
