JUSTICE AND RIGHTEOUSNESS

Therefore justice is far from us, nor does righteousness overtake us. (Isaiah 59:9a NKJV)

When we make up our mind to stand, we must establish the foundation that we are going to stand on. The Lord is our Rock. However, it is up to us to establish our stand on that Rock. He is always the same. We can trust Him. He cannot fail. Those are not just words; they are truth. It is this truth that we must be rock solid on in order to go on and on in the Kingdom of God.

Isaiah had the distinct privilege of telling the people exactly what got them in their current mess and what would ultimately get them out. Often times, they did not even see the mess they were in or realize what had caused it. As we noted in our look at torment, we often times do not see that we are in torment and if we do not see it for what it is, we have no desire to get out of it.

The Lord is just and righteous and He calls us to be the same and to stand for the same. Remember that righteousness is rightness with God. Justice is a quality of being fair. So if we are right with God we will be just. We will be honest with ourselves and with others.

I was considering how the Lord delivered me from so many wrong things when I met Him. It was easy for me to see how wrong they were in presence of His righteousness and consequently it was easy to not only let them go, but to be appalled at even the thought of returning to those things. Then it hit me! The reason I can nurse wrong attitudes, and other –˜little’ faults, is because they don’t appall me! I don’t see them as a big deal. While the thought of getting drunk or high or other –˜big’ things, do not even tempt me; saying something negative about someone or nursing a bad attitude does not faze me the way it should. I guess that will have to change.

Back to Isaiah; he makes it clear that they are in a mess whether they recognize it or not, but then lays out great promises of what the Lord has planned for them and how He is going to accomplish it.

In Isaiah 60:1 he tells them to arise and shine for their light has come and that the glory of the Lord has risen upon them. He tells them that no matter what may cover the earth, it will be the Lord rising over them. Does this sound good right now or what? Is there darkness over the earth? Is there fear? Is there injustice? Does it look as though righteousness is under attack everywhere; even in the church?

Wow! What a time to sink our roots into the promises of God! What a time to commit ourselves to stand on the solid Rock. If everything else were to disappear, if we hold on to the Word of God we have the very thing that formed the world in the first place. We don’t have to wait until heaven to understand how the bird’s needs are all supplied. We can trust that the Lord is right and just and therefore all his promises are yes and amen.
