KEEP COMING BACK

Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come. (1 Timothy 4:8)

Are you ever distracted when you pray? I can be very focused and then, I am not! I recognize that I am distracted and get back to where I should be. And so the battle goes, and goes, and goes.

We are now in the season of remembering and distractions. For Christians, we are doing as much as is reasonable to remember the reason for the season is the birth of our savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, but we must be honest and say that it is a battle against everything else that is going on.

Some people get distracted by the fact that there are distractions. Christians should just avoid the whole thing and stay focused on Jesus! Yes, just be angry and focus on Jesus! I did that briefly, but it did not feel right, so I came back to Jesus with a much better focus.

There is a very good reason that we are told to fight the good fight of faith. A good deal of that fight is to keep coming back. Remembering to train ourselves to be godly is a good effort to make.

Have you noticed that distractions rush in when you are in the middle of a good plan. I mean you are planning to do a God thing like making a call or sending a text or praying for someone or something; and whoosh it is swept away, and you have to come back again.

I often look through my journal to see what I might have been planning to do. Worse yet I look to try and remember what God said.

I get some amazing revelations as I pray in the night and then I need to come back in my prayer time and ask the Lord what it was! I refuse to give up or get discouraged! I just keep coming back.

It only makes sense that we make a big deal of the birth of Christ. Only the Lord knows how many non-believing people turn to Christ as we come back to the miracle of His birth. Not only that, but God knows how many hearts that have turned cold or were just going through motions of church life, suddenly come alive as Jesus comes alive in them.

Then, there is coming back to someone once again who you have prayed for and shared with and are certain it has done no good. You know you are wrong to even think that! His word and your outreach always accomplish something. Be sensitive to Holy Spirit. He might just be whispering something to you right now.

As we turn our attention to Jesus, lots of great things come to life. Love grows as our hearts grow tender. Hope abounds as we remember the hope we have in Christ. Hard things in our lives that rob us of peace are exposed as the thieves that they are and peace flows in, around, and through us. Our Joy is set free to infect others. The joy of the Lord gives us strength.

Keep coming back to Jesus. No distraction is greater than His attraction. Remember, no weapon formed against you can prosper. When you recognize that distraction, just praise the Lord and return to His light.  It is like finding something you have been looking for! We all need more Jesus!
