KEEP HIM SCARED

Do you still think it's enough just to believe there is one God? Well, even demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. (James 2:19 NLT)

Do you know that feeling you have when someone is eyeing you with a garden hose in their hand, or better yet, how about when someone has a water balloon or a snowball, and you don’t know for sure what their intentions are? Okay, how about walking into someone’s yard and they have a big dog with the hair standing up on its neck? To me, all of these are rather tense situations. Some would produce more fear than others and some just a little discomfort. But still a person is not really at ease in any case.

Well, as Christians, it is in our best interest to keep the devil afraid of us. We need to make sure that he never feels safe or comfortable when we are around. Of course, he will never be afraid of us by ourselves. He likes nothing better than to have Christians thinking they are safe without ever putting on their armor. But just let one start to believe in the power of the blood and name of Jesus, and hell goes on notice. Every power the devil can muster is sent to get that idea out of the Christian’s head before he becomes too dangerous.

The Bible tells us that Jesus blood has purged us of sin. The righteousness of God that flows in our veins through His blood makes it so that we can never be comfortable again with sin. This of course does not mean that we don’t sin. It just means there is no room for it to comfortably sit in our lives. If we try really hard we can over ride conviction for a time, but God is faithful and He will not allow us to stay comfortable with it.

As I thought of this the other day, I had this picture a fearful devil. It was actually a funny scene, because it was like one of those acts that clowns do at a circus. You know, where one has a bucket and is chasing after the other one. Finally when they throw the bucket it is usually confetti, but the people in the stands don’t know that for sure.

I see this as a picture of us getting up in the morning. When the devil first eyes us, he checks to see what weapons we are carrying. If he sees our blood supply in hand ready to be applied, his worst fears are realized. This is because we are submitted to God. We believe what He says. We have faith in that blood and its power and we are not only resisting the devil. We are tormenting him.

Every evil plan that he has spent so much time plotting is rendered powerless against the blood and the name of Jesus. Oh yes he can still roar, but he is a toothless lion. He is like a little Yorkshire terrier. They can yip, but they can seldom hurt anyone.

If we go the step beyond believing that there is one God and move into applying His word to our lives, we will keep the devil scared. He has no business scaring us when we have the blood and the name of Jesus and the Holy Spirit as our power source. Make him wish you would just stay in bed all day everyday. Keep him scared!
