KEEP MARCHING
Tell the people to march...camp along the shore...Pharaoh will, "those Israelites are confused. They are trapped between the wilderness and the sea." (Exodus 14:2&3 NLT)
Do you ever have times where you wonder what God is really up to? You feel like you are doing what you are supposed to do but it sure does not look like it is working. Well the good news is that if we just keep marching along according to the word of God we will behold the glory of God.
When we look at the way that God moved Israel out of Egypt, we wonder how they ever could have doubted Him. After all the plagues and then going on their way with the wealth of Egypt you would think that nothing could cause them to question the faithfulness of God ever again.
When God told Moses to march the people up to the seashore, He knew exactly what He was doing. He even told Moses that Pharaoh would think they were confused and that they were trapped. The good news was that God warned them; the bad news was that Pharaoh was coming. God said that He was going to harden Pharaoh’s heart so that he would come after them. What in the world was God thinking? Why didn’t He just smash them before they left Egypt? Well, God planned to receive great glory at Pharaoh’s expense. He wanted the people to see and experience the great miracle, not just hear about it.
Well, it took three days for God’s plan to take effect. Pharaoh decided that it was crazy to let those slaves go. The devil does this when it comes to us as well. Whenever we defeat the devil he licks his wounds and starts on another plan. Just remember, every plan he comes up with is just another opportunity for God to receive glory at his expense.
So Pharaoh chased after them and caught up with them and it surely looked like they were trapped. Were the people confident? Did they remember all that God had recently done for them? Did they declare that the God who brought them out of Egypt would also deliver them from Pharaohs army? The answer is no, no, and no. They immediately began to whine and declare that God had brought them out there to die. They blamed Moses and God, and declared that it was better to be a slave than to be where they were now. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard Christians say that sometimes they think it was better and easier before they got saved. What a person must do is keep marching. We need to keep pressing until we know God and trust God. Then we will see every obstacle as a place to expect the glory of God.
Moses then tells them not to be afraid. Just stand there and watch as the Lord fights for you. He will rescue you and you won’t have to lift a finger. And on top of that, you won’t ever see this enemy again. The Holy Spirit tells us the same thing. He urges us to trust the Lord to fight for us. Jesus said that He came to set us free. That is the truth and the truth sets us free. When we stand trusting God and ready to march at His direction, we can be confident that the Lord will get us where He wants us to go.
Do you ever feel like God is saying, “quit crying and get moving?” We hate to hear things like that, but we know there are times when that is exactly what we need to do. If we want to see the Lord glorified, we need to keep marching.
