KEEP YOURSELF
But you, beloved, building yourself up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God...(Jude 20-21a NKJ)
There is no pressure in this verse, only revelation. It is part of the simplicity that is Christ Jesus. There is no question about the love of God; it is! God is love, so His love simply is; and it is for us. We just need to enter in. We need to keep that reality always before us. Get there and stay there. Keeping ourselves in the Love of God opens our eyes to other wonderful things.
In the love of God, we realize that we are kept by the thing we are in. In our recent blizzard, they were telling people not to go on the roads, but if they did and got stuck, they were told to stay with their vehicle. The point being that they were safer in the vehicle than they were if they got out. Also, if they got out, it would make it more dangerous for others. Oh look at that! If we get out of the love of God we are a danger to ourselves and others.
Yes, we are kept by the love of God as we keep ourselves in the love of God. We are also kept by God for God. You see when we are in the love of God, we produce the love of God and that is for our benefit and for the benefit of the kingdom of God. The love of God is God. God is love. This love that we have received is a flowing love. When we have it, it reproduces. As we keep in it, we pass it on. As we pass it on, we experience more and this in turns keeps us wanting more.
So we keep in what we are kept by in order to do for the one who loves us more! And we do all of this thru Christ. Verse 21 finishes saying, “Looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” The mercy is in the Love. The love makes us merciful as well.
So we keep ourselves in His love and discover that as His love keeps us, it produces in us things that we never imagined before. In the beginning of my relationship with God, I had many moments where I wondered where what came out of me came from. I am thankful for those times. I am even more thankful that they never stop!
There is no end to the wonderful love of God and revelation that it produces in our lives. The Bibles speaks of how all things are for Him, of Him, and through Him. This is what our hearts really desire. It is what our inner most being has always wanted. We have always been drawn to God and we can never really experience total satisfaction until we are in Him.
So, the love is there. He is there for everyone everywhere. We need only to enter in and stay in. Why would we ever want to leave? We may get tricked from time to time. We may doubt or be fearful. We may find things that are hard to forgive. There a multitude of things that try to get us out of the love of God. Thankfully, God reminds us that nothing can separate us from His love. It is up to us to remember and get in and stay in. God will keep us in the storms. Trust His love!
