KNIT TO HIM
But as for you, the anointing (the sacred appointment, the unction)which you received from Him abides [permanently] in you; [so] then you have no need that anyone should instruct you. But just as His anointing teaches you concerning everything and is true and is no falsehood, so you must abide in (live in, never depart (from) Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him], just as [His anointing] has taught to [to do].(1 John 2:27 TAB)
Everyone knows what knitting is, at least most people do. I used to think that knitting was just something my grandma did, but have come to realize over the years that there is lot of knitting that goes on. In fact the things that are called knits now, do not look anything like the knitting my grandma did. The difference comes in how tight the weave is. I even made a sweater or two on a knitting machine, and different parts used different weaves. No, this is not a lesson on knitting, but rather an attempt to get our minds open to the idea of being knit to Him.
When things are knit right, they are tied together so well, that something has to break, or you have to cut the material, in order to separate it. In a way, knitting is an organized tangle, one that is done on purpose. If you have ever had anything get tangled, you know it just does not fall apart. Well once something is properly knit, it is almost impossible to un-knit it.
This scripture calls for us to abide in Christ, to be rooted in Him and knit to Him. He is not only our life source, but He must be the one we cling to. So carefully attached to Him, that we can not be undone. If we dedicate ourselves to this, He will see to it that nothing can cut us apart.
God tells us that His anointing teaches us concerning everything. It occurred to me, that this is probably the most important reason for the anointing. There are a multitude of wonderful things that come through the anointing, but none of them will last unless this most important part is the foundation. The anointing draws us ever closer to Him. After all, it is His anointing. The Holy Spirit is forever lifting up Jesus, encouraging us to increase our love and devotion to Him.
God has been drawing His body into a deeper and more intimate relationship with Himself for a good reason.(Like God would ever do anything without good reason!) He knows that we need to be tight with Him, if we are going survive in what lies ahead. Times are coming, when the only thing that will sustain us is our faith in God. We are going to have be able to just step aside with Him and allow Him to cover us and provide for us. We will have to trust Him to guide our every step, in every area of our lives.
If we are not rooted in Him and knitted to Him, we could slide away. We could be drawn back into the world and not even realize it is happening. When a person is knitting, they have to pay attention to what they are doing. It may look like they are just doing it automatically, but if they don’t pay attention it can get messed up. We need to pay attention to what we are doing in our walk with God. We need to watch what we say and do. We need to take time to be with Him, and to show our love for Him. We must do all we can to honor Him in all we say an do. We must be quick to repent when we don’t. We must determine not to grieve the Holy Spirit, and hate it if we do. We must increase the tightness of the weave, until we are so knit to Him that there are no loose spots or defects inside or out. That should keep us busy till He comes!!!
